Time To Move On Old Man

Now, i'm gonna hazard a guess here and assume that there probably arent that many NFL fans on this site. There might be 1 ro 2 but the majority of people on here probably wont "get" the American game.

Nonetheless, i am gonna have a little rant about it.

My problem lies with Brett Favre. I have been a Packers fan for years, following his career through the highs and lows. Every season finished with a huge ? over his future. At 38 he's one of the oldest players in the game, and the oldest QB by quite a distance. So, at the end of last season, he decides to retire. Its something we have all been waiting to hear. We knew it would come. It was just a question of when.

Now he's saying he wants back into the game. Over the last few weeks there has been a lot of ill feeling between himself and the Packers camp. They were happy to move on without him starting Aaron Rogers in his place. Now, after a lot of pressure from the public, they have reinstated him. Even an offer $20million just to be the face of the Packers was not enough. He wants to play. That's fine, let him play. But let him play for someone else. The Packers wont do that of course. They know how good he is. Even at 38 he is one of the best in the game, and they are unlikely to trade him off to a rival team.

This is my problem. I dont want him to play. He finished his career on a high winning us the North Division title. He also single-handedly lost us the chance of going to Superbowl by throwing yet another interception (one of his NFL records by the way). He had every other record under his belt too: He is the only 3 time MVP in NFL history, has the most touchdown passes, most passing yards, most completions, most pass attemps, as well as the most interceptions thrown. The guy was gonna walk out of the game and straight into the Hall of Fame. So why did he come back?

Now he has pretty much divided a team that was working hard to come around to Aaron Rogers. Aaron himself will have to take another season on the bench because as anyone who follows NFL will know, Favre always plays injured or not (another reason he should go as i have watched many games where he has been physically unable to throw due to injury). He has angered all the management by piling on the pressure of his fans and backing them into a corner and none of it is in the best interests of the game.

In my mind he is being selfish and egotistical to force their hand and reinstate him. He should walk away the hero that people think he is and not ruin the sport for his fellow players, many of whom think his change of heart about retirement is a bad and callous move.

Will we win the Superbowl this season? With Favre at the helm its not as big a possibility as it used to be. Move on old man.

Ok, rant over. Like i said, dont think there are many fans of the sport here but feel free to leave a comment if you like. I just needed to vent.

Re: Time To Move On Old Man

I haven't even the slightest idea about what sport this is about.

NFL? QB? Packers? Steelers? MVP?

I'll have to Google this...

Edit: Ah yes, I've found it. Sort of Rugby?

Like Rugby yes, only with the need to strap about 50lbs of protective gear on,

When the guys coming at you weigh 300lbs+, I think you'll want all the protective gear you can get!

Re: Time To Move On Old Man

Its rugby with all the grace and movement taken out, and with breaks in the play to suit the TV companies. Not a lot of point to it then IMHO.

Go Chiefs....

He'll be slow fading back after the snap at some point, will get clipped, and that'll be the real end of his career.

This has surprised me more than a little. I thought the Buccs were gonna get him. Glad Aaron Rodgers will get his time on the field.
