Gah! Do modern car batteries last for much more than 2 years?

Mine's given up this morning.

Was the same with the 147. Lasted about 2 1/2 years.

Now I have to work from home this AM.

Depends on the warranty ... if the warranty is for 2 years, then it'll last 2.5 years ... if the warranty is for 5 then expect 5.5 years ...

(!'m feeling cynical again this morning I'm afraid Nev)

Re: Gah! Do modern car batteries last for much more than 2 years?

I only ever had one battery fail ever.. a Marelli battery that lasted "just" 12 years in my old Fiat Uno.

Tarquini is on battery no.3 however.. the non-standard battery in it when I bought it was knacked (probably allowed to go discharged) but the (Halfords) replacement is still going strong at 6 years old.

All my batteries that have "died" were allowed to go flat through dis-use and never really recovered...

Bad luck - mine's lasted 4 years and is still performing well (touch wood).

I'd never replaced a battery on a car before the 147.

Too much gadgetry perhaps, or maybe the hot weather?

Try Bosch batteries. I have 'em on most of my cars and the least guarantee period if for 5 years. One of them is warrantied for life !

I'll see what the dealer puts in after lunch.

Christmas tree errors. SO I have a nasty
sinking feeling that they are about to wipe my remap.#
(Again)

On a positive side the Total breakdown service
which is literally free (You get 15 days cover everytime
you fill up.) Worked a charm and turned up within 1.5 hours
to jump start me.

Still on the original in my 03 156. No doubt it'll be dead now soon after I type this!

I've had a couple of batteries 'Die' over the years but all more then 5 years old.

Is working from home really so bad?

I've bought cars with duff batteries twice, but once I've replaced them, the replacements haven't died on me.

Re: Gah! Do modern car batteries last for much more than 2 years?

Very hot weather can have some strange effects on batteries. I had to change two batteries on my car in Oman, both went completely dead to the extent that even the clock had stopped, without any warning at all. One minute all is perfect, next minute dead as the proverbial Dodo. Not much fun being stranded when the temp is over 50 C.

Re: Gah! Do modern car batteries last for much more than 2 years?

The battery on my 145 lasted about 9 years / 100K miles; the one on my Xantia is at least 4 years old; both of those get used regularly and the battery never gets drained. On my RX7 they don't seem to last long, maybe because it gets used less regularly, maybe because it gets very hot under the bonnet?

Re: Gah! Do modern car batteries last for much more than 2 years?

Well it seems like the battery for a 2.2
is a "special" battery that is not held
in stock and it takes (now) 2 days to get
hold of one.

This is ballcocks!

They wouldn't give me one from an expo car either.

Have you ever been given a 7 seater C4 Picasso as a "like for like" replacement for your alfa? hmmm thought not...

(actually by the end of having it for a week I was starting to quite like it ... just observing the "stability control system" sh*t itself when you throw it into a corner far to fast and keep the throttle open just made me giggle)
