car park prices.

Watched a program
on the Lakes on sunday,
people complaing about parking fees
the chap in charge told presenter
do you know how many visitors we get
per year,
no, she replied.
he replied 8,000000!
He then went on too say that
the fees min;60 pence max 3.50pence.
was justified ,it was needed too pay
for the maintainance and servicing said three car parks.
the parking warden claims he was on a fixed income.

8million visitors -how many cars?
how many 60 p`s?
how mant 3.50`s.
how much in total??
Finally ,`what are these carparks laid with Gold?

Justification,`I THINK NOT,
Greed I think so.'

JOHN.

Re: car park prices.

So going on a minimum charge of 0.60p that makes a minimum of £4.8 million in one year.

Re: car park prices.

Surely some of the money will go back into maintaining the roads/emptying the bins etc which are used by the 8 million visitors who don't pay rates or council tax in The Lakes?

Hi,RicksAlfas
Think not its a local money earner.
for if that were to be the case,
my local road would be smooth,
and not like a dirt track.

Hmmmm. Tricky one John!! I know last time I went up it cost about a fiver to park in a field at the Old Dungeon Ghyll. I suspect that was going straight in the farmer's back pocket! Can't complain though as it got the car off the road safely all day.

Must confess that when I walk the fells,
I tend to be on the tops for around 9ish,
still know one or two quiet off the beaten track
places too park the car, when you are early

I'm buying some land, and am going to charge people a flat rate for parking. 4.8m would do me nicely.

Re: car park prices.

Seeing more and more car park ticket machines that accept debit/credit cards. Long gone are the days you put 50p in and that was it

It is the railway ones that get me, the charges have gone up ridiculously. Not everyone lives walking distance from the station, so you end up getting shafted on your rail fair and then shafted again to park your car for the day.

Oh and if John is right and 36k for being a parking attendant where do I sign up??

Long gone are the days where councils charged 10p an hour to park. Now with all their underworked employees to keep in cloth it's alot more.

Re: car park prices.

My two pet hates:

1 Ticket machines that require your registration plate just so that you dont have the temerity to gift your ticket to somebody else (b**t**ds).

2 Hospital car parks that charge....charming.

Re: car park prices.

Bristol was £8 a day - what i couldnt believe was that the forestry commision charge £3 to park in the forest of dean.

Thats why NCP was sold for over £800m a few years back

Re: car park prices.

All my local towns are 20p for the whole day, which, on balance, seems very good.

Chester, on the other hand, makes you do this . I think they're trying to price people out of driving into the centre, and getting them to use the Park and Ride. Works against them, though, b/c it means I never go into the centre now, unless I have to.

Totally agree with this -->

Re: car park prices.

Hold on a sec...these figures don't add up. How big is this carpark?!?

An AVERAGE of 22,000 cars a day? I'm guessing its a bit bigger than the one we have at work?

Ok....lets assume that there is more than one person a car...that would bring the profits down a bit!

Simple, don't pay. The car park wardens in the Forest have as much power as a zoo warden, the worst they've done is put a note under my windscreen wiper. Pffft! I'm not paying to line their pockets.

I do a lot of mountain biking in the FoD, I don't mind paying for parking at bike centres like Afan, Glycorrwyg, Cwm Carn, Gethin etc, places that build, invest in and maintain the trails but the Forestry Commision contribute absolutely nothing to the bike trails so I'm not paying. The mountain bike trails were dug by the people for the people, the Forestry commission have contributed nothing so why should I give to them?

Ogmore and Southerndown beaches are another example. They're covered in litter and dog mess so I refuse to pay for the parking and park for free on the road 50m from the car park and walk in.

We went to the Hampton Court flower show on Saturday... £10 to park in an extremely muddy field !! (And there were 000's of cars parked there )

At least NAD parking was free

Oh and it's 20p for 9 minutes to park in Chiswick

Re: car park prices.

I must say, my mum's disabled badge is brilliant, I take her somewhere and we're getting free parking, free Severn bridge toll, can't complain at all!

Goodwood Festival of Speed in the weekend - straight in at the front of the car park, free shuttle service into the event for all of us in the car. Brilliant! Nice one mum!
