Internet shopping rip off

On June 6th we ordered a washing machine from Poxmania (true name changed slightly), confirmed that it was in stock on the phone, and ordered it on line with Visa Credit (for safety reasons). Nearly one day later Poxmania sent an Email saying it was out of stock, didn't know when they could supply one. I complained, said I needed it ASAP, cancelled order. Also checked with my CC provider that they hadn't debited account. I have since purchased washing machine from alternative supplier, in order that I don't lose friends/job and missus, because I smell like a character out of history.
Today, I look at my online Visa statement, to discover that Poxmania debited my card on 10th July - over one month later, despite me cancelling and raising hell with them.
Any experts, please what do I do now?

Let the credit card company
sort it out for you.

That's what the consumer credit
act is there for.

Re: Internet shopping rip off

A lot of internet sites are just resellers. I had a similar problem when I was buying my LCD... took a day off work to wait for the courier. Got to 4 pm so rang the seller who said he'd look into it. He rang me back 5 minutes later to say "the supplier's out of stock". I pointed out that I had just lost a days holiday waiting for a non existent courier and his response was "it's not my fault the supplier said he had stock". I pointed out to him that his website was still saying they were available and he said "I can only go on what the supplier tells me". Sorry mate, here's me ordering from your website and stupidly thinking my business is with you!!

Phone the Credit Card company they'll sort it out for you quite easily.

Re: Internet shopping rip off

Pixmania = thieving Pikey :sw: ers IMO

Ordered a TV and HDD recorder from them once... they tried to debit my credit card 4 times.... to the tune of over £3k (Liuckily my CC Co are on the ball and called my up right away and I could cancel all the transactions )

Now I wouldn't use them if they were the last on-line electrical retailer on the planet !!

Re: Internet shopping rip off

I can only think it's an error, not deliberate. I've used them on a couple of occasions and been pleased. They're a pretty big supplier these days, so I don't think they could afford to do these things on purpose, if you see what I mean.
Contact your CC company. contact Pixmania themselves. I'm sure you'll quickly get it sorted out between those two actions.

The only time something similar has happened to me was a Pizza Hut in Las Vegas, which charged me 9 times for the same pizza! I remember the guy struggling with the machine which he thought wasn't working (clearly it was really!)

Re: Internet shopping rip off

Aren't they also a French company ... we had to send back the camcorder we bought from them (under warranty), however we had to post it to France!!! which wasn't cheap!!! It look them ages to sort it out, with a complete lack of communication, it would've been easier (and cheaper actually) just to claim it on the house insurance ...

Re: Internet shopping rip off

Thanks chaps, have contacted CC suppliers, and they are sending me forms to complain. As a bit of an aside, I ended up getting a new Washing Machine from a supplier in Birmingham, who delivered the next day. It was £150 cheaper than Meteors or Vindaloos, and I tipped the guys.
So it's not all bad news out there.

I'd say your first port of call is ringing pixmania. They probably made a mistake. No need to send away any forms. They'll refund you no probs.

I disagree, you are very well covered under card-not-present
rules and why bother ringing up the supplier and getting the run-
around when you can just make 1 call to the large CC call centre,
get the amount set-aside on your account (no interest payment)
and let them battle it out with the supplier.

Make use of the CC organisation that you fund.

The only company I deal directly with issues is Amazon,
everyone else it's a call to Visa or Amex and a fax
stating that I've not received the goods. Works every time
with the least amount of fuss on my part.

Re: Internet shopping rip off

Nev, been busy, so an update. Got in touch with the CC, and Poxmania. The payment has been set aside as "disputed" not "fraud". I will have to fill out forms when they arrive. Phoned Poxmania on Monday (lying, thieving barstewards), and they deny the cancellation (quelle surpris!!!!). Later that day an e mail arrives from Poxmania, asking when I want the washing machine delivered!!!!
They are taking the p???

While pixmania are based in France, I believe they are part of the same group as Dixons, Curry's, PC World etc...

Yes, possibly the worst chain of stores I have ever dealt with. I avoid them as much as possible.
