Listen chaps, chill, if you are nt doing anything wrong you ve nothing to worry about, plus, you think there are enough people to watch all the footage and imagery etc? Well there isnt, CCTV and surveillance does not stop crime and naughtiness but it does make it easier to find out who needs their botty spanking! I m all for it and we just all need to relax a tad. As for the dog turding the pavement and the owner not cleaning it up, I m all up for using the footage to shame them and (dare I say it) request they clear it up, God forbid some one in our Bluddy country take some responsibility!!!!! Litter dropping, dog turds, theft, laziness and all round badness, if it needs to proven because people are not honest, then so be it!! I m all for it!

It's just a shame the UK is turning into the rest of the world
where you have no rights and the "authorites" (Mostly plod)
just lord it over the rest of society.

Heard some truly shocking cop stories this weekend:
Bullet holes in restaurants, planted drugs etc. The moral
I took away was never go out with someone who's
dated/divorced a France cop. You will regret it and
may end up in Prison.

That's why these changes in UK law **** me off because
the UK seems to be heading down the road of becoming
like everywhere else.

Funny, what a couple of nasty experiences will do to a person
ain't it? But I think maybe you're right and I've got a bit of a
problem.

They do say people who have a bad experience will tell twice as many people who have good ones...?

The pair on the video were embarassing tho

It's unfortunate that the circumstances where people get to meet Old Bill now are generally at times of conflict.

They used to do all sorts once upon a time ...lost dogs, property, school crossings etc. It enabled them to meet the public on a non threatening level, but that's not what the Gov wants now...

it's a shame.

Sorry about your experience

So if the Americans have the highest percentage per capita of their population of the 'western world' in jail, and we feel the need for constant surveillance in order to feel safe, what right do we have to force 'democracy' onto our Middle Eastern, (oil rich!) neighbours?

All these things are not helped by a government that seems to think that a nanny state browbeating is what the british public needs.

As I fill out my SORN, and stick up my No Smoking signs and wait for my ID card to drop through the letterbox....

I fear the police are on the receiving end of an indefinable fury welling up in people.

The point about the public only coming in contact with them on enforcement issues is a good one.

If you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about FFS how naive can you be? We have councils using laws designed to catch terrorist for checking that you have complied with rules around which bins to use for your rubbish.

Just to prove the fallacy of your statement, lets take a fairly simple example where you put your bin out and head off to work.. before the bin men comes a neighbour decides to dump a load of his rubbish in your bin because it won't fit in his... Bin men turn up, your bin is overflowing.. you get the fine. You do have something to worry about.

Also you seem to be confusing the point of the legisalation. If the Government said it wanted to introduce new surveillance powers to allow Councils to catch people that let dogs foul the footpath, and Parliment approved the legislation, then at least it went through a legal process.

What you actually have is Councils using powers designed for a very serious purpose (combating terrosim) to be used for what at best is general 'naughtiness' that you're most likely to get a fine for (payable to the council).

So rather than "chill", I might get a little bit irate that a free and democratic country is spying on it's citizens (including access to phone records, emails and tailing suspects... this isn't just CCTV) for nuicance crimes and revenue generation.

Apologies for the rant... but people's perspectives are seriously FUBAR on this. One women I heard interviewed about this on Newsbeat said "I wish people would stop referring to the councils using the legislation for petty crimes.. dog muck on pavements isn't petty. It gets on the wheels of my push chair and ends up in the house".

If people really think their inability to steer round some dog muck should have the same investigative powers as 7/7 then they have their priorities messed up.

Monty, I m going to say CHILL again because I am not naive, I m a soldier who has seen the world (not just Iraq and Afghan) and if the average bloke is going to get upset about laws and regs that can assist in both serious and not so serious crime/incidents rather than enjoy the freedoms in this country, then crack on, get wound up because it is here to stay. I m in a line of work where this is vital and you would be surprised how much petty stuff identifies far worse crime. If you are an upstanding member of the community with nothing to hide and you get a bin fine, write a letter, fight your corner but you may be interested to know that many serious terrorists have been discovered through low level and seemingly petty stuff from local councils, cameras, nosey neighbours etc.

Perspective perspective perspective! there are places in the world where your minor rant would get your tongue cut out. We should be grateful we are in a society where we can have so much freedom, a site like this would be shut down in some other countries I will not name.

Niave I am not, realistic I am and yes I do get upset when I get dogturds on my beautiful shoes, and if my neighbour puts his stuff in my bin, no doubt he would be stupid enough to throw soemthing away with his address on and and use it to discuss with him he may want to consider not doing it. Too much paranoia, not enough neighbourly attitude.Nothing a bottle of wine and a low cut top and a smile wont cure. (Try putting on a low cut top and smiling - gets you miles in this shallow world.)

Dont rant, relax, we got your back.

Monty, come here and give me a hug.....come on, come here, come on..............................there we go, not so bad. Move next door to me, I ll look after you.

I love this country an in the end most people who have the positions to do something about the problems are doing their best, there are about 70 million people doing nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That may have been the case in the good ol' days
but the time is coming, with some of the laws that
are being passed, where a cop will be able to stop
you outside your house see you haven't got you papers
with you and throw you in jail for the night.
And maybe then decide you "fit" a case and concoct
a story to suit. (After all I reckon you could easily
create a good set of evidence in 42 days just
to have another "Terrorist Plot Foiled Aren't We Great"
headline.)

I can already see it happening gradually over there.
But I suppose if that's what the public has been
frightened into accepting...

Where are all the cells going to come from ? this country cant lock up criminals because they have no room for them It may be a police state Nev but far far away from being able to throw people in jail for having no papers, On a typical night where i live the Police would rather turn a blind eye to crime than go to the trouble of locking someone up, so im far from convinced, im more worried about their lack of being able to lock criminals up. for police state, read "the police are in a state"

Many people have died for us to have those hard fought liberties and the whole point of this is that they're being eroded. Seemingly, with plenty of people's consent.
