Panic fuel buying..

I was in need of petrol this morning, so I went to stop at the local Total service station to get some fuel. The cars were queing off of the forecourt onto the main road!
There was no way I had time to wait as I would have been late for work. I will have to try and get some on the way home, at another garage, and hope that they havent sold out.

The question is why? The nearest shell garage is 15 miles away, and it was a total garage, which is nothing to do with shell.

I have my car booked for an MOT later, and if I can't get fuel I won't be able to take it there.

Re: Panic fuel buying..

Its a combination of those who really panic buy and those who think they dont panic but then decide they had better buy fuel before those that do panic. If you know what I mean.

Hence the long queues that I too had to sit in this morning because I was running on fumes. I was at Morrison's not Shell. Most people will avoid Shell because they think there will be long queues and then cause long queues elsewhere.

Its self perpetuating.

Re: Panic fuel buying..

Aigburth Rd Liverpool, Shell garage (cheapest for miles around too), queuing at 7.20am this morning as I am on my way into work

This is why petrol stations run out of fuel. If everyone biught normally there would be no problem.

As an aside I think I am going to become a tanker driver. A pay offer of £39k pa seems fine to me.

Re: Panic fuel buying..

I was panicing this morning ... drove 50 miles to work with the light on and filled up when I got there - 62 litres (why didn't I fill up near my home???) ... no queues for me this morning, but that was at about 6am ...

... that's too early for the normal person to panic!!!

Re: Panic fuel buying..

Its like watching Lemmings jumping off a cliff, why dont people just Fuel up normally there will be no problem if they do, as for the News reports they deliberately started scaremongering last night to deliberately inflame the situation and cause people to panic buy

Re: Panic fuel buying..

No panic buying in Cambridge.....no one on the roads. It was great. I think people are staying at home in case they run out lol.

So, a nice brisk journey into work this morning. Personally, i'm loving it.

Re: Panic fuel buying..

Thats the funny thing, there was little traffic on the roads today. Its probably because everyone was queing for fuel.
If I had panic bought some yesterday I would have been ok.

I blame the government, they said not to panic buy, but we all know no one listens to them. They should have said that we must panic buy.

Noticed that too. Petrol stations seemed quieter than normal.

Everytime I fill up now, I panic buy, in case I can't afford the petrol next time I go to the garage.

Not only packed garages in North West London but ALL garages have put the price up by 2p since yesterday evening.

Profiteering or what!

Exachell staff say even those who weren’t intending to buy petrol were drawn into the mass panic, such as area ****wit Irene Mizzz. ‘I had spent the morning frigging myself over the memory of Princess Diana and was on my way to buy a second, uncreased copy of the Daily Express when I noticed a commotion at the petrol station. I immediately realised it was the kind of grunting, thoughtless mass hysteria I enjoy and decided to buy as much petrol as possible. Obviously I don’t actually own a car so I had to go and buy one of those first and by the time I got back the unthinking mob behaviour was over. I was so disappointed I decided to fire bomb the place so I could spend the afternoon moaning about Muslims’.

An Exachell sposkesmans was quick to reassure everyone that the tanker delay was a one off and that people should stop being so Christingly ****ing thick.

I'm so tempted to stick up one of those signs by our local petrol station, except I think I might get lynched.

I do like sniffpetrol

This is yet again down to the incompetence of this government.. by good old Gordy getting involved and feeding the media speculation, it has done exactly the opposite of what they intended,

Meanwhile the other fuel companies are having field day putting the prices up to take advantage of the headless chickens that are panic buying it's only one in ten stations FFS!

Re: Panic fuel buying..

Did anyone fall for that spoof that was spammed around a couple of years ago whereby petrol was available for half price but that it was delivered to your door in suitable plastic canisters ? I, for one, at least registered with the website before I realised that very few postal/courier services would ever carry petrol around in anything, let alone plastic canisters !
