What stuffy lot of old moaners we have in this country. It won't be any gypsies or travellers that have complained it will be some jobsworth career complainer put on the earth to ruin our lives.

I suppose that's why they are also known as travellers

Ofcom said it had received seven complaints. ITV said sorry to viewers.
Seven?! FFS, has the world gone mad. I'm sure Ofcom investigate anything just to justify their existence.

Brundle wasn't offensive in the slightest, traditionally pikeys used to be a cheap resource for manual labour, before they turned to theiving TVs

Re: Ofcom assessing ITV 'pikey' jibe

There are people that sit in front of the TV with a notepad, phoning in whenever they can. When I was at London News Network they used to get a regular chap calling in with stupid complaints.

As for pikey's I am fed up with people standing up for them, they aren't gypsies in the traditional sense. These are people that think the law doesn't apply to them. When you have had a bunch of caravans turn up, break into the field opposite your house, defecate in open view of your 94 year old Nan, destroy public property and steal equipment from the local school sports ground...

... then you can criticise me for calling them the scum of the earth!

Sorry a bit off topic but I feel better now

I think Brundle should apologise - they would have made a much better job of it than the track maintenance team did.

Brundle's comment sounds like the sort of thing Prince Phillip would say! I think he should attend more Grand Prix's!

Re: Ofcom assessing ITV 'pikey' jibe

If the BBC dont get Brundle on their team next season then they are idiots. This is a major concern of mine. I like the ITV setup. I like the neat approach, the informative professionalism of the hosts, but most of all i like the manic strides Brundle takes down the grid before each race. He asks the questions that the fans want answered. He even asked Bernie what he thought about Max. He doesnt stick to any strict code and neither does ITV.

The BBC are too corporate and PC for this to be a good move. I cant see them pushing in on interviews in progress to ask their own questions. I look at the current MOTD and shudder with its pompous and pointless prantle. Ian Wright was on to something i reckon.

On the plus side, there wont be any more adverts, but that is a small price to pay for a well hosted and covered sport which is very close to my heart.

Agreed. I remember the farcical US Grand Prix a few years ago when only six cars from three teams actually started the race because of a problem with the Michelin tyres. Brundle hounded Bernie Ecclestone for answers, and all credit to him for showing that he's not afraid to ask tough questions when required.

Re: Ofcom assessing ITV 'pikey' jibe

I agree with some of that but there are definitely some bits of ITV's coverage that could be dispensed with - namely the 'female interest' segments where Louise Goodman follows a driver round his flat while he cooks dinner (for example), and James Allen

Re: Ofcom assessing ITV 'pikey' jibe

Apparently Brundle was/is one of the most technically able drivers around the F1 scene. You can tell the respect he's earned just by the way people have time for him,no matter who they are, that's why he's one of only a few that could do his pit interviews.
Sometimes I think you can actually see it on the face of rookie drivers when he speaks to them. He's a top man for sure.

Ian Wright was a usless football pundit and an absolute embarrasment to the licence fee, great footballer but thick as pig muck, rarely knew players names on opposing teams (never bothered to research). Waste of space and glad the div went....

Brundle is a joy to listen to, so informative and a great driver...... BBC should keep him. The pikeys thing was nothing, 7 folk complained thats nothing. Had he of mentioned the 'irish' Pikeys bit, well different story, but in this case...
