Public Transport

've got another stag do this weekend. We're meeting in Portsmouth at ten and I don't really know if there's anywhere I can leave my car as we're sailing to the Isle of Wight. Thought I'd try the train option.

To get to Portsmouth by train, I'd have to leave Dorchester at 7.02 am arriving at 9.50 am. A journey of nearly three hours including one change and a section on a bus. The cost for this? £53! There aren't any buses from my village to Dorchester at that time either, so I'd have to get a taxi for another tenner.

Or I can use my car for £40 and take just over an hour. In fact it'll cost me half that as I'm travelling with someone else.

1.21 GIGAWATTS?!

Ex 95 164 TS Super, 95 164 QV, 97 164 V6 Super – all very much missed.

What's public transport? We don't seem to have much around this area.

Re: Public Transport

I spend £400 a month to travel into London using the crap trains that are often cancelled or delayed. I get to cram on with about a million other (sometimes sweaty and smelly) people and sometimes if I am really lucky I will be sat next to a complete nutter that would like nothing better than to eat my kidney

Re: Public Transport

There's only two things that put me off using public transport.......

1. The public.
2. It's vulnerable to terrorist attack.

So as is often said in 'Dragon's Den' - "And for those reasons....I'm out!"

I'm not sure I've ever worried about that. I'd say you're more likely to be involved in a car crash than terrorist attack on public transport.

Re: Public Transport

I had to get from Charing Cross to Reading the other week, not a great deal distance wise, but it cost £36 return. Season ticket for Dartfod into London excluding tube is now just over £160/month, when I started working in London 6 years ago it was about £95. The last increase was £15, and from what I read for the next 3 years prices on south eastern will continue to rise by a similar amount.

They could save money by getting rid of some of the "revenue officers" who all week have been simply standing outside the station chatting!

You've obviously never had to catch the last bus from George Square in Glasgow on a Saturday night mate?

Dorchester to Brockenhurst by SW Trains then change there for Lymington, then 30 mins on ferry to Yarmouth, IoW.
Only trouble is you might be on the wrong side of the Island - you didn't say where you were headed when over there.
