Madness Car out of guarantee

I finally got round to waiting in a queue at the dealer
to ask where my 3rd year guarantee paperwork was.

To be told they hadn't done anything and because it's
now >23 months the car cannot have a 3rd year mfg guarantee.

WTF!

Salesguy is looking into what can be done.

Re: Car out of guarantee

The other stupid thing?

If you only buy a car with the intention of
chopping it in after 2 years there is actually no
financial sense to get any servicing or oil changes
done, as the 1st service is 24 months.

Re: Car out of guarantee

2 years?! I thought 3 years was an 'EU directive' or summat? Everyone else is offering a 3-yr manufacturer's warranty, and Alfa aren't? Bonkers!

Re: Car out of guarantee

Yes, 3 years is rubbish. Not even 3 full manufacturer years

Also I have been informed that any audio equipment on on Alfa is classified an accessory and is only covered by 1 year warranty

Re: Car out of guarantee

Indeed. I had my 24,000 mile service yesterday at a staggering £380.

I complained that my left repeater indicator was full of water when it rains...

Apparently this is not covered in the third year warranty as it is not 'mechanical'.

So I told 'em to stick it.

Asked them also to refit the electric windows switch cluster on the drivers door - it popped back out on the way home.

Oily finger prints on the passenger door.

I'm off to buy a Toyota. :-(

DG

PS. I'm not really going to buy a Toyota.. but its tempting!

Re: Car out of guarantee

I think they need to come up to standard at least...not only for the faults but for the confidence in the mark, which will stop the depreciation! Do we think they are waiting for a plateux before they decide to wack a 5yr on them all?!

Re: Car out of guarantee

When I had my last Alfa under warranty, I had it serviced by my local specialist - Alfanet in Bristol (£120 rather than £320), the work was of the highest standard...and had absolutely no problems with claiming on the warranty after the non alfa dealer service.

From Alfaworkshop

The whole area is covered by the Block Exemption Regulations (BER) 2002, which gave motorists almost total freedom of choice in where they buy their new car and where they get it serviced; a fact that generally hasn't filtered through to the consumer.
