Unlicensed Driver

Have just heard that my brother-in-law is driving around without a full driving license and has been for a number of years He feels that because he failed his test twice on minor points he is good enough to drive without one. In fact he is driving around Europe at the moment

Part of me says that I shouldn't get involved, the other part says I should inform the police.

What do you think?

Re: Unlicensed Driver

You owe it to yourself and other road users to report it. It will play on your conscience, but what if he killed a family in a car and you knew about him not having a license...

I know what the bigger guilt would be for me.

Re: Unlicensed Driver

Id tell him you will shop him unless he stops - then if he dont then thats his fault when you tell the cops. If he does injure someone he will have no insurance to pay them and the injured person will only get wot he can afford to pay and that may not be enough for wot has happened to them.

Re: Unlicensed Driver

Shop him.
Imagine the guilt you would feel if he managed to kill someone if you didn't and you knew you could have prevented it.

I once shopped a work collegue for constantly driving to work smelling of booze.

5 days after sending the police an anonymous email through crimestoppers they were waiting for him in our works car park, and they carted him off and charged him.

I felt bad though as 2 weeks later he hung himself.

I think he would got caught anyway though as he was coming in drunk every day.

Re: Unlicensed Driver

I think you are all correct in your suggestions.

He's a person I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if I didn't ever see him again, even my wife wants nothing to do with him but family funerals happen and you can't always avoid family members at such occasions.

Re: Unlicensed Driver

I'd never 'shop' a friend to the Police, question is; is he a friend? or just your brother in law? Either way you need to let him know it's not acceptable.

Nearly everybody will take risks at some time in their life. That's fine and to be expected. But to blatantly drive round illegally everyday is childish and irresponsible.

Not even if you knew he'd killed someone, ............ or was going to ????......... I'm sure most people would.

This guy driving around without a licence obviously has no respect for the law ........... and the law in a civilised society is not something we can pick and choose with regard to which ones we want to abide by, depending on our personal view of which of them are serious or not.......

The bloke needs telling.............he either stops and takes a test........ or you shop him!!!!........... After all what does he think makes him so special he doesn't have to pass a test like the rest of us ????

He's putting everyones lives and livelihoods at stake........

Cheers to All

Re: Unlicensed Driver

I would just shop him without saying anything.

If you say something to him first then it might be obvious that it was you wot done it.

Your Mrs/Inlaws Might not forgive you if they found out you dropped him in it.

Can't believe you would even think of reporting a member of your family to the police!!!I drove many years without a license, was always carefull not to break the speed limit or parking fines. When I finally got my license I started speeding etc.

Re: Unlicensed Driver

Before you report him you should consider the consequences of your actions. It could cause problems within the family. If i were you i would talk to other members of the family first and get their reaction. What he's doing is wrong, no question, but its not responsibility to get involved and other members of your family may resent you for it. Talk to them first.

Weeeell......

Put simply, yes.

But by and large everyone is concentrating on the one (IMHO) correct side.
