Madness Why can't people hold onto their doors?

Just getting petrol at Tescos and some guy in a 4x4 pulls up next to me opens his door and BANG the bloody wind caught it and slammed it straight into mine :swear: :swear: :swear:

As you can see buy the pics its managed to do plenty of damage to the paint as well as dent the door skin

Going for a beer now and to punch someone

If I were you I wouldn't ***** around, just go straight to your insurance company, otherwise you know you're going to be the one running around, getting quotes, paying for a hire car whilst yours is in being fixed, paying to fix it up front and then maybe you'll get the money back ... one phone call to your insurance company and they will sort it all out

'least you were there.
The guy obviously is in need of a smaller
car.

If he wants to avoid his insurance,
(doing him a favour) just ask for 300quid cash.

Chris, that is what is going through my mind too, he is on holiday now for a week too He said that is its only 100 - 150 then he would rather not go though insurance. To be honest I would rather not go through insurance too - I have had way too many claims (for the 156 and GTV) lately. I know I am not at fault but it is just another thing that I would have to declare at renewal time!

Re: Why can't people hold onto their doors?

Looking at the dent and scratches they look quite deep You might be looking at a bill in excess of £200 for top quality work to remove them! Sorry Vinnie I'd threaten the 4x4 owner that you are going straight to your insurance company

Re: Why can't people hold onto their doors?

There is no way that will only be £100 - £150 to fix! You need a new doorskin and a respray. Anything less will be a botch job. You're looking (or rather he is) at £600 at least for this!

100-150 ... hmmm I would've thought somewhere in the ball park of 500 as it does look like a bodyshop job to me ... the trouble is that bodyshops don't tend to give free quotes (at least not near me), so if you do go for a quote and then decide to put it through the insurance you'll have lost that money (ok only 25 put it's still 25)

Plus it says not spraying! I need paint on it, the photo doesn't show it but there is a big bit of paint that has come off (down to the metal) and it has scuffed a big bit of the lower door quite badly too. That and the fact that the dent is right on the body line on the door - I don't think its just going to pop out

Re: Why can't people hold onto their doors?

I think you might be right people - dumb thing is, years ago I worked for a coach works and that was my initial thought too! So are you thinking just go straight to insurance - does it matter that it was in a petrol station (not on the road) and that he wasn't actually driving?

Re: Why can't people hold onto their doors?

Doesn't matter where it happens really ... my last but one insurance claim was against a recovered company that dropped my 156 off the back of the recovery truck ...

EDIT: just remembered it was my 3rd claim ago ....

Re: Why can't people hold onto their doors?

Do not even think about the "cash-in-hand" route. You'll be running around getting quotes only for him to say he "has a mate who could rapair it for 50 quid". Ask him for £300 cash - this'll probably be his excess on a 4x4. I don't think a SMART repair will work on this. All the best.

Yes probably too big a job, best solution is Insurance and a professional bodyshop

.. I forgot to add,

If you got through the insurance company at last you'll still be mobile whilst they repair it - whatever the cost

Sorry to hear this Vincent, I'd do what is said above but only if you have a witness to it happening. Guy I work with got reversed into by a woman in a 4x4 she backed out of a space in a car park as he was driving past.

Company car but her company are denying she was even there. HE's having to go through court and alsorts.

Did you get some pics of the guys and his car?
