The Italian Job

I know it's a classic. I know it features Minis, E-Types, a lovely DB4, and lots of Italian goodness. I know it's not a really serious film but.....

1. Why, when the Miura blows up in the tunnel, is it not even slightly scorched when it comes out.
2. Why are they talking about a Mini's diff with the rear up on axle stands?
3. Three fast cars in case they need to make a run for it. All 2 seaters and there's about 15 people.
4. Why are the mafia running around in Dino coupes? If I was a mafia don I'd want the big 3 litre saloon or a Quattroporte.
5. During the escape, why do they drive on the roof of a building, then onto Fiat's rooftop test track? All the law need to do is block the exit and it's game over.
6. Why did they **** about loading the cars onto a moving bus? If it was stopped, it would have taken seconds.
7. When they were driving over the mountains to escape, why didn't Charlie tell Big William to calm the **** down?

Apart from that I love it.

I bet Noël Coward asked the same one word question many times.

I’d forgotten Benny Hill was in it.

"I gather you've been in India all this time" Says the garage manager to Charlie Croker

"Shooting Tigers" says Charlie

"The bill sir is about £200"

"No problem there's a bounty for shooting tigers, £2/head" Says Charlie.

"You must have shot an awful lot of tigers sir" The garage manager
"Yes I used a machine gun" retorts Charlie.

I love it.

Yea classic, Matt Munro singing “Days like these” driving the Muira, probably the best looking car ever made, wearing leather driving gloves up the snow lined Italian mountain roads.
Could life get any better until it hit the bulldozer.

Having been fortunate enough to spend some time in Turin with work the film is even more of a treat to watch. Only problem is I never got round to requesting the key to the rooftop track at the Lingotto hotel for an early morning jog.

I had planned a Ferrari (Mondial) for my 40th. In that plan I would have that song playing and Pink Floyd's Shine on you Crazy Diamond as I drove it home.

Unfortunately in 2004 I no longer possessed a tape recorder and the car only had a Cassette player

Wrong era really but even then the Mondy was 21.

‘In this country, they drive on the right’ - or close enough.

Iirc, by the time that line is said, they’d already been there for a few days. You’d think they may have sussed that out ahead of venturing onto the roads to conduct robbery where driving is a key part of the escape strategy.

And... when it’s on the telly, why do announcers always introduce it as ‘a classic comedy caper’ ?

I absolutely love it too. I would guess it’s probably my most repeat watched film.
