Hey BBC

If you're going to make a change to your website so that it autoplays any videos present on a page when it is opened, perhaps you should limit yourself to one video per page?
I just had to scroll through a long news story and pause 5 different videos to stop the cacaphony of noise assaulting me.

Garage
It is not just the BBC, most news sites seem to do the same thing. I hate it. I want to quickly skim the text and get the gist of the story not watch a pointless bit of film.

I suppose it gets the hit rate for the videos up and so they justify having them because "look at the hit rate"

Autoplaying videos drive me nuts. There are ways of stopping them but how depends which browser you're using; a web search will help.

It's only just started happening, and I assume the change is at their end.

In other news:

Hey BBC

Stop forcing me on to a different website when I'm abroad. It's different and scary and I don't like it.

If you don't like stuff auto playing, view stuff with an old windoze unSMART phone. Nothing plays on BBC web58ite. The only issue is many other websites end up plastering some message about accepting cookies because they allegedly care about my privacy.

Because they employed inept techies, I can't cancel the message so an increasing number of websites are becoming irrelevant to me because they are targeted to appeal to millennials with a short attention span.

The upshot is I spend less time and money online because many websites have irrelevant messages pop up on them by design.

This leads me to note each new generation of software claims 'better browsing experience' which is simply a lie. The only thing it does is run more spurious advertising scripts so that it takes longer and I use more data.

Most people 'upgrade'.
I just stop loading crap instead.
