Plastic wheelnut/bolt covers

Why? Why not just make the bolts out of something vaguely presentable and durable? If I have to change a puncture at midnight, in the ****ing rain, on the M6, the very last thing I want to is **** about trying to remove little crappy bits of plastic with my fingernails.

Wheel bolts are high tensile steel.

It might be strong but it has a trendency to rust, and plating to prevent corrosion can weaken it...

So not much you can do other than paint them of fit covers.

I tried the paint method but it isn't very good. Zinc plating is normally too thin. I take it as good news Alfa have finally decided to use plastic covers (156 owner with rusty wheel bolts).

If they have a set of tongs to remove the covers as per VAG cars, it shouldn't be a problem (if one has a light source).
