Wheel Alignment

Okay...long story short....took 156 to new guys doing front wheel alignment for £22...they did the job and said that front passenger side was a bit out...fixed it...grand job.

But they have now left the steering wheel off....sitting at about 11 o'clock....was always dead on level.

Fair enough...ring them back as I am heading home....no reply....sent them a text...got an apologetic reply...all fine...get it sorted tomorrow.
I said that's great....was an easy mistake.

Here's the reply from alignment guys
"I appreciate your patience......to be completely up front,it's not quite a mistake as cars age, bits and pieces aren't quite as tight and tolerances are exceeded....completely natural and nothing to worry about.
This is difficult to judge and a little trial and error is involved when bringing things back into line with manufacturers settings.
We will get you back on the straight and narrow tomorrow."

Am I being wrong and being too sensitive.....could he not just have said he would fix it ??

Or should I not have mentioned "mistake " ??

It's not the money...that's nothing...it's his defensiveness.

No, youíre right to be up in arms about it. £20 or £200 how hard is it to get it right? They are the experts so spend the time and do it properly. Iím sure the bloke who did the alignment wouldnít find the way he left your 156 acceptable if it was his own car.

That's what happens if they do all the adjustment on one side. The good places have a device to hold the steering wheel in place. Then they adjust on each side.

That stuff about tolerances is bull****.

Poor nonetheless. Setting up a modern car with a wonkey wheel will impair VDC function.

Good it was resolved but it should never have happened.

At least they didn't twist up and damage the steering rack gaitors.

I have had that happen to me once...

Modern thermoplastic is far less likely to twist and tear compared with the old rubber.

Not sure what they were made from, probably synthetic rubber.

It was on my Fiat Coupe 20VT, and I had a replacement rack fitted with new gaitors put on before the wheel alignment, only to have them butchered.
