Office Kitchens

to complement the excellent thread about the state of office toilets, how about one on office kitchens.

One thing in common with the office toilets thread, is the question 'do you live like this at home? If not, why do this at work?'

The Kitchen at my work is always a mess as well.

I often load/unload the dishwasher, but not many others bother.

I have said before that if everyone did the job occasionally then that would be enough.

Not cleaning the Sandwich/Panino press is another one. I hate burned on bits of cheese left on there...

Garage
Sink is full of unwashed mugs, plates and cutlery!

Microwave looks like a Jackson Pollack painting. I’d rather eat in the bog!

There used to be someone in my office who did eat his dinner in the bog. We knew this because he used to leave the empty packaging on the floor.

Likewise, I tend to ensure mugs are collected up and the dishwasher is switched on before leaving but to be fair to the team in our relatively new swanky offices at the airport, most colleagues put their pots in it.

My pet hate continues to be used coffee spoons being left on the draining board and people not mopping up spills.

I suspect I might be gently laughed at but I’ll get down and clean the kitchen floor with Flash because our cleaner seems to spend no more than three minutes in our entire suite and I simply cannot leave the spots and splashes on the floor.

Our kitchen is mostly kept tidy but then we have cleaners do it. However out of date food in the fridges occurs often and at times it does become quite smelly.
The microwave the cleaners do not clean. I have on a few occasions but as I don't use it now I don't clean it. It does get pretty grotty at times.

Never had the problem. As I had my own lab with Bunsen burners I used one of those to make coffee in a Bialetti. Shouldn't have in a lab but from what others say quite possibly a better environment than the coffee room.

I'm jealous of those of you who have dishwashers at work. Our cleaners do it every few days buts it's technically not their job. Dirty spoons is a favourite moan by one of my colleagues. I do sympathise!

I wash up my own. I do have fresh salmon on a Thursday which is a messy affair cleaning up but otherwise it's my coffee cup.

The easy answer is to put up a polite notice on the board if you have one, or tape it to the fridge door to the effect that any foods left in the fridge more than a week beyond the BB date or looking remotely like it is going off will be binned and just start dumping it.

And of course the cleaners have no choice because otherwise they can't clean the kitchen... knew one who regularly worked extra time doing other people's washing up, thereby bringing her rate below the minimum wage.

The dishwasher broke at our place today.

You can only imagine what sort of chaos that might cause, but as everyone was actually washing up their own crockery it was tidier than normal...

Thursday afternoon and the kitchen is looking tidy and clean. Funny how most of the senior managers haven't been in this week!

A coincidence???
