I see lots of Vauxhall Insiginas with the front badge missing.

I cannot see why anyone would want to steal one of those?

Probably.

You can see the outline of the Opel badge underneath.

Opel doesn't seem to have the stigma attached to it that the Vauxhall badge does.

People remember Opels as the Manta and Monza, where as they think of Vauxhalls as being dull and mediocre like Vectras and Astras.

In other countries they probably think of Opels as Dull and Mediocre.

Coincidentally, I saw an Insignia with its front badge missing today. It looked like the front grille is designed to take an Opel badge but Vauxhall slap their badge over the top.

With GM in charge you're probably right about Opel being thought of as dull and mediocre.

There's only Vivaros made in the UK, the cars are made somewhere like Portugal. The Vivaro shares a platform with Renault and Nissan which is a bit of a conflict for Peugeot. When you think about it Vauxhall is no longer required

I knew about this.

It seems to have coincided with their sales falling, although there are probably other factors involved too such as the demonisation of diesels, and the lack of clarity from a goverment which cannot make its mind up on stuff like this.

Don't you remember doing that as kid?

I do remember buying one from friends. Mostly Mercs, back in day they were cool and desirable to kids for some reason...

Wasn't it the Beastie Boys which had VW badges around their necks on one of their videos?

Not long after that the badge from the front of my dads works VW van went missing.

Would have been around 1990?

Seat Ateca SE

I read the reason that Vauxhall/Opel were always making massive losses was the way GM did the accounting. All the licences were owned by GM and they mad the individual brands pay a fee, so economies of scale fro VX/Opel could never be achieved.

Yep, it was Mike D from the Beastie Boys.

Licensed to Ill was released in 1986.

Adam Yauch - "MCA" - died in 2012, just weeks after they entered the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.

This makes me feel very old.
