Non nozzle draggers

What is it with people that won't use a petrol pump on the wrong side? Why do they have to cause queues going out of the petrol station and into the road because they can't be arsed to drag the nozzle round the other side of the car.

I can't overtake them to use the free pump sitting there because there isn't enough room to overtake and I'm half out into the road blocking the traffic behind.

Re: Non nozzle draggers

On many of the pumps around here, notably ASDA in Swindon the hose isn't long enough to reach the "wrong" side.
Its very embarrasing pulling up then realising that the hose won't reach. Especially if there is a car in front as well as behind...

Now I always go for the correct side of the pump now.

Re: Non nozzle draggers

They just about reach in Ystrad Mynach if you turn the whole thing upside down, but, they won't reach over the Alfa on North Road in Cardiff.

Besides, why drag a pipe over you car with the chance of scratching it!?

I always use the same Shell garage in the Scoob, its always really busy but I know the nozzle will stretch so I can use the 'wrong side' pump

Re: Non nozzle draggers

I drive a 'freakin'' tall SEAT and have tried it even with the pumps which are meant to reach boths sides. No chance.

Once bitten twice shy.

I'm one who would not risk scratching my car by pulling a fuel hose over it

Re: Non nozzle draggers

I'd much rather queue and wait for a pump on the right side. As stated previously I have tried to fill from the wrong side before but its too much hassle!

Only do it if I can pull forward enough
to get a reach-round without the hose
rubbing the Brera's backside....

Re: Non nozzle draggers

tesco hoses have a toughened plastic bend in them that keeps it clear above your car

Re: Non nozzle draggers

No problem with a 147 - just go far enough forward and bring the hose round the back using left arm to hold it clear of the body.

Never been to a pump that won't reach.
Never been "beeped" either for going round somebody.

Re: Non nozzle draggers

I get moaned at when i fill the cit relay as the prat who designed and built them forgot the fuel filler till the last minute then stuck it up front so bl00dy hard to move to far past the pump when filling certain amounts, ending up taking to much of the stand area

never mind

Re: Non nozzle draggers

i regularly use the wrong side, hose never touches the car, you just have to be careful of the dribble after you take the hose out, move the nozzle around the boot rather than over it

Re: Non nozzle draggers

I have never had a problem with either the GTV or the 147 - either take the hose around the back of the car - 147- (just pull forward far enough) or rest it on the rear window - GTV.

Re: Non nozzle draggers

Always use whichever side I can get to on the pumps - never really had a problem with hose not reaching. But I hate queuing so much - especially at petrol stations when the buggers go and fill up with £5 worth of fuel and spend hours messing around in the shop buying stuff. I've got so fed up of people messing around taking ages to fill up and pay that I go really early in the morning to avoid them. The worst ones are those lazy sods that park next to a pump and go in the shop to get a paper and a mars bar ( that really bugs me ).

... and aren't even interested in getting petrol! Even when there's plenty of space to park... oh, right, that means they'd have to walk to the door... Yeah, that burns me as well. Go to flippin' Tesco then, you lazy wastes of space....

I remember when petrol stations actually sold petrol.....

I've tried to pay at the pump a few times, and it's never accepted my card. So balls to it, I'll pay in the shop.

Yeah that happens all the time here 'cause they
(used to?) only accept French cards at the auto-
pumps.

Re: Non nozzle draggers

Always filled from whichever side of the pump is free. And if you're worried about scratching the car just use one hand to hold the hose above the bootlid or away from the bodywork. It's never been a problem - not even in the 159 which is pretty wide.

I agree, whichever side is free. Life's too short, and besides I can't remember from one day to the next which side my petrol cap's on!
