Re: Filthy Thieving B'stards!!!

Its rife in the construction industry. Even people I know and have worked with, when they don't particularly want a job they put in a high quote, then recommend a mate who is known to need work, and a few other brickies who are known to be booked up and so will all put in high quotes as well. Then the guy that really needs the work gets it, but still at a good rate. Although they don't actually collude with each other about prices, it is a backwards way to achieve the same ends.

I'm surprised its as common when it comes to big firms though. Can't be an easy thing to police.

Re: Filthy Thieving B'stards!!!

Anyway, what about BAE Systems, who only seem to have got the multi-billion dollar arms deal because they agreed to give a couple of millions worth of the Saudi money back to the people in charge of *deciding which* firm won the contract.

And then when the police start investigating it, they stop after pressure from the government, cause the Saudi's say "you investigate, we pull out and 3,000 British jobs go down the pan"..

*editted this in to clarify*

Re: Filthy Thieving B'stards!!!

I'm surprised that we're surprised, it has been an accepted business practise for years.

On a much smaller scale but to serve as illustration. When in the forces as a married guy and you had to move the MoD paid for the removals. You had to get three quotes for this. In reality you picked the firm you wanted and they did the rest and got you the three bits of bumf you required. Abracadbra, the one you wanted was the cheapest......

I just can't believe you'd sully the good
name of our US cousins with such ridiculus
accusations!

I mean next you'll be accusing them of
using their Echelon system and Carnivore software
to spy on UK businesses and then feed the trade

if you don't want the job you put a high price in, if you get the job with that price then it's worth doing. passing work on is just hepling other people out imo.
