Cry Like A Baby I'm in shock (pics added)

I was woken up early this morning, 4:12am to be exact by a big bang. Our basketball pole and hoop had crashed to the ground , unfortunately my 93Spider was parked under it. I'm finding myself mad at a pole, it had completely rusted through and the concrete that had been holding it up gave way.

I'll take some pics once I compose myself, the damage is not too bad it clipped the car close to the licence plate and then hit the bumper. I'm glad it was pulled up close to the garage.

Anyone heard of one of these falling down before? I thought it was a thick metal.

Re: I'm in shock

Sorry to hear that Hope the repair costs will not be to high.

Never heard of this before. But then again: I don't live in a country where we have basketball poles at our houses.

Re: I'm in shock

Must have been fairly thin walled steel I guess then CG?: Ask his truly to get a suitable length of galvanised scaffold pole, and set that in concrete. That should stand the test of time.:

Re: I'm in shock

I just took pics, lucky for me it was the rim of the hoop that caught the back of the Spider not the pole.
It's suppossed to be thick steel, never even gave it a moments thought that it wasn't.

Re: I'm in shock

I know, I immediately thought it was a good thing no one was under it, the Paper man was outside delivering at the same time. Hubby wondered if he had tried to hang from the rim at that moment and it crashed but he was an older fellow, and too short to reach the rim. Thank goodness it didn't get him.

Crikey CG yes....he could be on to his solicitor - and trying to claim against you, such is the world today...

I hope you get it sorted and it doesn't cost too much or inconvenience you

Re: I'm in shock

Rotten luck

Hope the damage is not too bad...

I bounced a tin of paint off the wing of my spider when it was "safe" in the garage (the tin fell off a shelf when the door slammed in the wind) I know how you feel...

Instances such as this kind of reinforces my belief in Kama - by damaging something you love - it possibly has not damaged someone you love...

Sometimes its funny how lifes misfortunes are actually lifes fortunes...

Right enough of this

Look on the bright side Classicgal, a perfect opportunity to sort out your slightly 'Alfa-pink' bumper!

Look on the bright side if you handnt been so close to the garage it would have put a dent in the roof then it would have been a write off (in this country anyway)

$300 Canadian (excuse my ignorance )? Doesn't sound too major, thankfully - and as Chris says, could have been worse!

Although it was a bad thing to happen - phew - not that bad.

Still a bugger when these things happen though.

Surely a dent in the removable hardtop of a spider can't mean a write off in the UK?

I know, I've been looking everywhere to find another Veloce script but they are not being made anymore. (at least not in NA.)

Re: I'm in shock (pics added)

Dont know if Canadian car insurers operate a no-claim discount scheme but do you think this damage might be covered by your house insurance?

In the UK, the loss of a no-claims discount can mean the repair would cost more if you ended up claiming on your car policy.
