People that Key cars

Went to the local supermarket with my son, parked in the space and was very careful not to touch the car in the next space. Come back to find two deep scratch marks in one of the doors. No way could it have been done by mistake so why do people feel the need to vanalise other peoples cars?

It's frustrating because I'm now going to have spend 50 getting it sorted or a few hours doing it myself. And before anyone asks there is no obvious CCTV in the carpark.

Re: People that Key cars

That's awful Mr Caine
It's infuriating when that happens, i had my GTV keyed within a week of having it and was paranoid about leaving it anywhere for ages.
I usually park:
a) right at the back of car parks where it's empty - makes me walk further to the store and i get soaked if it's raining.
b) NEVER next to a people carrier - they usually carry a rake of kids in the back and aren't very careful when opening doors.
c) next to another Afla if possible - failing that, next to another good looking, tidy car.

Doesn't always stop people damaging my car but i like to think i'm reducing the risk.
Maybe an alarm system that electrifies the outer shell and fries the culprits could be invented?

human behaviour is consistent in its predictability and predictable in its consistency

That's terrible
At school 4 cars have been keyed lately, we better catch the little creep. I told my Seniors to be on the lookout, lots of them have cars parked out there too.

Sorry to hear that Mr Caine, I had it happen to my JTD, three separate incidents all 6 months apart, first one side, then the other, then the boot

If I caught someone doing it to a car of mine again they'd quickly end up in a whole world of pain..

No, my Spiders haven't been touched yet, 4 other cars and a motorcycle ( broken switches) have been done.

All people that key cars should be lined up and ......................well I won't say it but it's a despicable act of vandalism. I can't see what pleasure they could possibly get out it.

At least its not Spiders then. I feel sorry for you about the cars and bike but I imagine it'd be a whole lot worse if they'd have keyed a Spider..

Catching them doing it creates its own problems. Most of us would flip and attempt to batter the culprit which would then invariably end up with a charge of assault. Worst case scenario is starting a fight and ending up with in knife in stuck into you. I'd still do the same as you though Pud,it'd be worth it.

You're right, besides giving them a kicking what are the alternatives, detain them until the police arrive or just let them get away with it?

I'd give them a bloody good hiding and worry about the consequences after. With no previous record and in the circumstances, no magistrate would send you to prison. It'd just be community service or a fine or whatever. Worth it IMO, especially if you manage to take a few front teeth out, or give them an un-even jaw or something

who's to say you'd get caught? if no one noticed the culprit keying the car, who'd notice you giving them a sly, but well deserved kick-in?

Re: People that Key cars

My first new car was a little Escort 1.3L in sand beige (the desert rat). It was a company car, and clearly nothing posh. It lived outside my terraced house in Royal Park Avenue in Headingley, someone carved a big A and a W in the bonnet one night..and I mean carved. I was so very upset, even though it was a company car.

Then about eleven years ago here in Boston my wife's Skoda Favorit Estate was badly scored, front back and both sides, and we know who did it. It was a lad who threatened one of our neighbours with a hammer, and my wife was watching, and made it clear she was watching..so he came back that night with a screwdriver. We could never prove it, but the scrote has done a stretch inside since then I understand. He's probably about 25 now. It was an insurance job and came back looking just fine, and we moved anyway soon after.

I had a winch nicked off my boat trailer just before Easter. Don't you just love these people (actually, a kind feller on another forum has given me his old winch..which is what restores your faith in people somewhat)
