Recycling bins

Not really a rant, but more of an observation..

I am not sure if the same happens all over the UK, but in our area, the council issues houses with small black recycling bins. You then put all of your recyclables into this bin, and it is collected every week. That sounds good in theory.

However.. On a night like tonight where it is very windy, these bins get blown over and we end up with a street full of plastic bags, old newspapers and anything else that can be blown away. So, very little actually gets recycled.

What a great idea they really are..

Re: Recycling bins

It is a bit rough at the moment. I am glad I am indoors in the warm.

Re: Recycling bins

Bit of wood and a brick? Or put it out just before they are due?

Our collection is very early, so the bins go out night before. We keep the black box in the shed during the winter but out in the back garden during the summer with said wood and brick

Re: Recycling bins

Having a brick on top around our way is just asking for someone to pick it up and throw it...

In some parts of my town its so rough the cats go around in two's..

Re: Recycling bins

We had the same, just a small box that would get blown about. Our council seems to have a bit of common sense though and now has supplied a second proper wheelie bin for recycling. They haven't done it for flats that share bins though, so I end up taking bags of cardboard/paper to my parents, and dropping tins off at the recycling bank.
