I recently forked out for two new Goodyear GSD3s on the front wheels because they had worn down the middle of the tread due to over inflating with a dodgy gauge at local Asda!
I then found that the rears were showing bad signs of stepping because of worn shock absorbers. So I replace the rear pair a couple of weeks ago, followed yesteday by the rear shocks (how much for rear shocks!!!!!!
However, instead of a nice relaxed drive home knowing the car was safer than ever and would handle well with the new parts, I collect the car at 6pm last night to be told that there is a lare rivet imbedded in one of the rear tyres. Too late to do anything last night so I started ringing round this morning. No joy. Earliest availability for a tyre will be Tuesday!
So the combination of poor availability of the tyre (it's rarley a stock item now) and the bank holiday weekend means I'm stuffed and will have to borrow my Dad's Clio for the weekend until I can sort things out on Tuesday!
GSD3s are steadily running out (Blackcircles have already taken them off their website), apparently to be replaced by the F1 Assymmetic, so the moral of this story is, if you are thinking of switching to G3s based on the good feedback you see on this site and in various tyre test reports (they are an excellent tyre), I would suggest you don't because you'll only have difficulty obtaining replacements for worn or damaged tyres and it's only likely to get worse!
I will have spent something approaching £500 on tyres in the last 6 weeks.
