Rubbish Customer Service

The hinges on my trusty Toshiba laptop are knackered so,on Monday I emailed 3 companies I found on the internet specialising in laptop repairs asking them to quote me a price to replace both hinges.
Todate I have not received one reply-how do these people stay in business?.

I guess they don't care about hinges as they wouldn't make much money from it.. probably.

For "trusty" read "obsolete". Maybe they can't get the parts.

Some companies with an internet "presence"
just aren't actually geared up to run an internet
style operation.

Have you tried calling them?

OK, so they cannot get the parts surely its just plain good manners to email me back with the information?.

Indeed they should. But ignoring small-time business they don't want isn't going to put them out of business either.

Buy a donar off ebay, doesn't matter if it's broke it'll be cheaper and DIY.

I've sent off three internet enquiries over the last couple of months, and not a single reply !!

Why do they advertise, and then not bother to respond !!

If they are incapable of replying to a simple email,would you trust these people to repair your computer?-I certainly would not.
This I couldnt care less attitude seems to be everywhere today.

I hope you're able to find somebody who is willing to fix your hinges, although I can't say I expect you to have much luck.

The hinges went on my Toshiba. I took it around to a couple of "notebook repair specialists." One said that the hinges and the job would cost more than getting a new computer. The other wouldn't even go that far and just said no they wouldn't fix it.

I tried to repair them myself, but I couldn't get at the actual hinge, even after I took the machine apart. I'm sure there's a trick to getting at them, but if so, it's too much for me.

Other than the hinge, my machine, which was purchased in January 2000 is still going strong. (Although I will admit that I've worn about half the letters off the keyboard. ) I dread the day I finally have to get rid of it.

Try using Duck Tape, a big piece on either side should hold the begger together.

Yippee!!!,emailed a fourth firm last night and actualy got a reply first thing this morning and have quoted £75-00.will give them a ring Monday and get the ball rolling.
