The DVLA

Thieving $%^&*(

It's the principle though only 20.

I sold my 159 on the 30th of April which was a Sunday. It was very convenient because me best pal bought it off me and we did the exchange of cash for car.
Anyway when I got home on the Sunday evening I went online to notify the DVLA of the vehicle ownership change because it saves a 70p stamp or whatever and some extra writing, ink blah blah

"Sorry this pathetic service shuts at 7pm". It's online for chrissake.
So I fill in the V5 which my pal had signed and sent it off. They would have received it by the 5th - 7th of May (you know where I am going with this).

So you have to wait 6 weeks for the refund that never turned up. So I have just phoned them.

"Sorry sir we work from the official notification which was May (whatever) and as such that month you do not get". I said "But I sold it in April and could not use the car" which is true.

He says "You should have used our online service sir.." I swore along the lines of "It closes for dinner" (or Tea if you're not posh).

Bloody thieving monkeys.

I'm not going anywhere, I'm just going.
Statements above are all my own opinion and not fact.

And if you had sold it to him on the Saturday and notified them on Sunday morning when the service opens he would have had to pay for April's tax because he owned it on the 30th.

I don't get how an online service can go offline at 7, on a Sunday.

We don't live in France, do we?

DVLA? Yes, is that why they shut at 7pm?

How or why does a online service go offline at 7pm? I suspect it's close of business but you'd think it's not really a business but a service.
Thieving gits.

Indeed, which was why we (as pals) conveniently picked the Sunday. My fault was I did not get home in time (because I had no idea it shut ).

Regardless of its location, the DVLA is a Government service, and as such operates on posh people's hours.

Try going to your local office for a couple of hours of entertainment, it's not entertaining if you wish to use their service, but it is if you don't.

e.g. last time I was there, changing my Father's tax status from Disabled Does Not Pay (in lieu of a motorbility Kia) to Does Pay As It's A New Tax Year And Your Form Hasn't Arrived (see a common thread)*, there were dozens of people who wished to either tax a vehicle or register it in their name.

Why not do it online you ask? Me too, as either it wasn't their car, it wasn't insured, not owned by them, doing it on belhalf of their Mother's new boyfriend's Sister's other half, and so on. Not I'm not so sure that it's the DVLA's fault things take so long.

*You can change from pay to not pay, and collect a refund online, but to do it the other way requires a trip to the local office or send off your forms and certificates to Morriston. Oddly enough the correct form was waiting for us when we returned home, but being a stickler he didn't want his car untaxed for the few days it would have taken the form to arrive. So first of the month the rigmarole was undertaken.

And like Wezley the month's taxed he paid, and shouldn't have, was removed from his refund which arrived a week later.
