Insurance Quotes

Need new insurance for March 18th, so over the last week i have been trawling the so called "compare" websites.

Using tesco compare and confused.com, i have received many inconsistent results, the same companies at different times giving different prices and offers, in the same week. surely prices dont alter daily, do they?

To set the scene, im 23.5 years old, been driving for 5 years, 8000 miles a year, no points, 4 years no cliams, prevous accident i dont have to mention anymore due to being more than 3 years ago. driving a 1996 GTV 2.0TS, which i believe is a group 16.

Firstly insurance groups, maybe when the car was new and worth a fortune it was a group 16, its only really a "quick" car, a friend of mine has a Type R Civic and his lower insurance group car definatly is much quicker and i imagine more expensive to repair. as mine would be a right off if involved in an accident due to not being worth much more than £2000 at a guess.

Anyway, i got aload of quotes and i found that by visiting companies websites instead of the compareones i received much smaller quotes. My own insurance company, norwich union, who i have been with for two years offered me a renewal for £750. Marks and Spencers offered pretty close to £2000.

anyway now paid my deposit to virgin, who dont penalise for paying monthly with no interest charges, £420.

But why is it so difficult??

Re: Insurance Quotes

It's stupid how different companies can be so far apart in quotes, sounds like a good deal from Virgin, mines not up for renewal till august but I think I'll see what they can offer me.

Re: Insurance Quotes

I had the same issue when getting quotes for my 2.2 brera. Most of the companies on the comparision websites only validate their quotes for 24 hours, the figures don't change much day to day but as most companies just 'subcontract' (probably not the right word) the insurance to another company there are many variables. I ended up with sainsburys insurance, but I'm pretty sure its underwritten by another company.
The next closest quote was twice what I've ended up paying, no idea why?!
Trouble is with 2 claims and 3 points, finding anyone to insure me is a task in itself !

Re: Insurance Quotes

I used to insure my car with Direct Line. My renewal would come through at about 100 quid more than using the Direct Line web site for new customers. Only problem was they found it very confusing having to prove my NCD to themselves each year!

Re: Insurance Quotes

Have you tried Chris Knott Brokers ? They give a discount to AROC members, maybe to AO members too ? Got a good deal from them last year and from what horror stories I have heard about companies such as Tesco I would be more inclined to use a specialist rather than " free insurance with every bag of chips " type of company

P.S. I am not in the insurance game or connected to the business in any way, just thought I'd offer a suggestion.

Most companies will ask to see the renewal quote but will cover you whilst this is in transit.

Re: Insurance Quotes

The problem with the comparison sites is that once they actually put you through to the inurance underwriters website you will be shocked by how far out the quotes can be.

The comparison website makes quite a few assumptions about you as a person etc etc

Re: Insurance Quotes

I've found for the last three years privilege insurance have always given me the best quote,
Funny thing thought it says there underwritten by direct line but direct line is always £50+ more expensive?

Re: Insurance Quotes

Definitely worth shopping around. Daughter was quoted £680 to renew with her current insurer [Nationwide] who had been very competative last year but got same cover for £420. Even Nationwide's web site was less than their renewal quote!!

Re: Insurance Quotes

you guys get jipped in the UK, my full cover insurance/glass buyout etc is roughly 20 pounds a month for a 2001 166 in New Zealand (no compulsory insurance but ,most people have it), and a 90 pound excess, and had my freeB max transferred from my old car which means I can make 2 free claims a year, without affecting my no claims bonus or excess, and funny thing is, is that I made two major insurance claims last year (one when a guy was buying drugs and was that high decided that he didnt have to use his breaks..caus he crashed right into my parked car...and all of this in a church car park...hahahahaha)

Re: Insurance Quotes

You say insurance is optional, what happens when someone crashes in to you? If you crash in to them does your insurance pay them?

Over here if an un-insured driver crashes in to you, you have to claim off your own insurance and loose your no claims putting next years premium through the roof.

Only if your fully comp can you claim on your own insurance, and I even think this differs between insurers. If an uninsured driver crashes into me I am not covered full stop, I'd have to take him to court personally..
