Re: Mice in loft, eaten through stored clothes and presents and stuff

we had squirrels in our loft a couple of years back, horrible little [email protected] they were. chewed through allsorts and poo'd and wee'd everywhere. £50 to the council pest control department and they were all in traps with broken necks & smashed spines ( ) followed by a tenner's worth of chicken wire rammed into the hole in the eaves where they were getting in and hey presto no more animals in my loft well, none apart from my hostages.

the little feckers didn't like me. i used to chase them out of the garden and managed to get one right in the ribs with a stone hurled at 4 times the speed of light once. i could almost see the little bugger look at me going "ooooh yer [email protected] ".

god that felt good

Just a quick one, would not advise putting poison down, as the blighters will eat it then bugger off and die in some deep dark recess which you will never find. This will allow you to just catch a lovely odour every so often, and drive you insane trying to find te decomposing bodies!
Them traps is best.

I could never kill a mouse, or anything for that matter (does that make me strange)?? So live traps for me, then i take them outside and release them at the bottom of the drive.

they are a pain in the ass though, i have one living in my engine bay and it is driving me mad!! (dusted away the nut store on my gearbox 3 times now, and now the little bugger has started eating a rubber cable shroud!!)

Ransoman, fair play to you for not setting traps for them! I am all for avoiding death of anything whenever possible, HOWEVER you go above and beyond the cause mate! Humane traps are great but you have go to let the buggers go miles from where you live otherwise they are coming straight back in! (You may have the mother of all drives!)

my drive is about 70 meters so the mice would have some trek, but the only way they get into the house is because my cat sometimes brings a live one in and lets it go (!!) luckily, at the moment we have none in the loft, but still evidence left over from the last one.

Re: Mice in loft, eaten through stored clothes and presents and stuff

We had that in the last location!! Strange really, because the previous owners had a cat.: However my old Ginger Tom Tigger, used to creep up the loft ladder when I was boarding the joists over, he soon sorted them!: In fact after that he asked to go up in the loft regularly, and many a time we heard his bleating, after having closed the hatch with him up there in the winter! " Where is that blasted cat again!" Used to forget all about him.

Just as well he got to grips with them rodents, and I assure you I'm not handing out a worry hat, but they had started to chew the outer grey insulation on the house wiring!!:

Poison is fine, won't take long for the bodies to dry out and little smell.

Re: Mice in loft, eaten through stored clothes and presents and stuff

It's one of the down points of living with woods all around you, my personal faves are owls and woodpeckers in summer, why do wood peckers ALWAYS start at 7am on a sunday morning?

I spent some time last night hoovering up the insides of various stuffed toys and comforters and things

IT even ate into a cushtie and that was worse than anything millions of tiny little statically charged polystyrene balls everywhere
