Madness Christmas tree side lights!!

Had a car (vectra I think) behind me for most of the way to work this morning with what appeared to be multicoloured flashing side lights! They were at least 5 different colours and the high intensity LED type (i.e. very bright). At first I just laughed to myself as it did look properly stupid but after all of 5 seconds it was just annoying (dipping the rear view mirror made little difference). After about half a mile however it was clear that there were just plain dangerous as cars coming the other way were slowing right down and some braking quite hard ether because of being dazzled or just wondering what the hell it was coming up the road, not to mention me being dazzled in my mirrors. You see allsorts of stick on tat on cars these days, the bonnet mounted blue washer things and stick on aero style fuel filler caps make me laugh. But this was blatantly illegal and a danger to other motorists why do these idiots do this!!

And breathe out..

Get it all the time around me. There's one guy inparticular that has ultrabright blue LED's on either side at the top of the windscreen.

Bonnet LED's are stupid. Why would you ever want to do that.

And as for xmas tree sidelights.... :nut:

That did cross my mind for a split second but no it was black and had a very poverty pimped out look about it (what little I could see of it). The problem being that cars coming the other way may well have!!

Totally illegal only white lights are allowed on the front of a car - will fail its next MOT I believe.

Doubtful it will be MOT'd, or if it is it'll be done by a mate with a garage.

Bloody annoying! It's the same reason I think Xenons should be banned.

Probably true why bother with things like a licence / tax / mot and insurance costing thousands each year when all you will get is 6 points and a 300 fine.

Re: Christmas tree side lights!!

A £300 fine they'll never turn up to court for to pay off and they probably haven't got a licence to put any points on. A few of my ( I would call them mates) aquaintances never bother with all this MOT and tax malarkey, they get banned from driving but don't pay any attention. 30-odd traffic offences later and it's back round the system of not turning up for court ... yet again! :sigh:

Drives me mad why we have laws to keep honest people honest, certain sections of society couldn't care less and the law makes no difference at all.

Hopefully ANPR in police vehicles will stop this. No MOT = no insurance = no tax. If the police keep on stopping the vehicles flagged up as having no insurance, then the people doing it will think twice about it.
Of course, it doesn't flag up cars which may be legal, but being driven by an idiot with no licence, mind you.

True but the problem is the police may take the car away and crush it - but they wont pay the fine they will just use the money to buy another car and carry on as though nothing has happened.

Re: Christmas tree side lights!!

The police can repossess the car on the spot if it is uninsured.

Re: Christmas tree side lights!!

Even if the car in question did have an mot it could probably be easily switched back just to get it through its next one.

There is a black cab in Dartford with blue LED's on his washer jets.... ****!

If I needed a lift and he pulled up, my response would be "it's alright chav, i'd rather walk!"
