Alloy Wheel Balancing Weights

Ok it's a little thing, but how many of you have had your alloys damaged due to the monkeys at the tyre fitters whacking clip-on weights on your rims and damaging the lacquer. Give it a couple of years and you start to see bubbles appearing, etc.

I ask mine now (nicely) to fit stick-on's only as the 156 has never had clip-ons. My 75 did, and the lacquer was falling off in chunks when I parted company with her.

Saw a brand new Passat yesterday, swish 18" or 19" rims and lumps of lead hanging on the rims ....

It makes me sooooooo mad .....

cheers, Gary

Re: Alloy Wheel Balancing Weights

Best bit is Bazza. with decently made quality tyres, and good wheels, they often don't require much balancing, if at all!:

Re: Alloy Wheel Balancing Weights

Gazza, same thing happened to me, very annoying. Last repair I had done the guy put a weight on the outside of the inner surface of the wheel, did not appreciate my whining that it was knocking against the suspension ! He replaced it with a stick on one which has now fallen off.... To cap it all still have the slow puncture that was the original problem.......

It should be a capital offence,I'd refuse to pay for the tyres till I got compensation.

Re: Alloy Wheel Balancing Weights

event tyres put new tyres on my new alloys before christmas and i didnt even have to ask for the fitter to use the internal stick on ones, he just did it as a matter of course.

unlike the shysters used by my local garage to put a new tyre on my girlfriends car, honking great lump of lead on the alloy

Re: Alloy Wheel Balancing Weights

All of my latest cars have had stick on weights. If a tyre fitter hammered clip on's on, I'd grab him by the ears and balance him
