You're complaining about too much gravy? Are you sure you're northern?

Jerked, pulled, and extra jerked sauce all over your food?

Joking apart, we wonder why we're getting fat as a a nation?

Are these gastronomic atrocities the sick product of nearby pub chains? I know where I live, a short trip out into the sticks a little will reveal pubs with simpler and healthier fare.

...an added bonus is that at smaller and/or independent pubs, the beer is normally better-kept too.

I prefer "lashings of" rather than "smothered in"

I think smothered is how the beast or bird in question was ritually killed, with a short prayer to Heston.

"Smothered in" and "lashings of" usually identifies an outlet where your food will not arrive on crockery.

You mean one of those establishments which serves a handfull of chips in a paper cup, along with a burger sat on a bit of scraggy wood.

Then they charge you about 4 times what they should do for it?

Chips in a mini chip fryer basket and your main meal on a piece of slate so any joo, gravy or sauce runs the risk of running into your lap, whilst taking a layer of varnish off the tabletop during its journey.....

I have been to places where the "extra jerk" is the person serving.

"Slopped" over might be more accurate. But then, that might just be the types of pub that will let me in.
