More specifically, people who moan about the result.

Itís a public vote. A shortlist is created and the public vote for the person they want to win. The person who gets the most votes wins, the person who gets the 2nd highest number of votes comes second, and so on. Itís really not difficult. You can influence this, by voting, because you are part of that public (unless youíre not obviously, in which case you canít).

Moaning in the comments section of the Daily Mail article on the subject that Andy Murray won, or Mo Farah didnít make the top 3, or that Leicester play football so should be automatically excluded, is entirely and completely pointless BECAUSE THE PUBLIC VOTED. Itís not advisory. Gary Lineker doesnít pick the winner after considering the vote, so thereís no point blaming him or sending him abusive tweets. Gabby Logan doesnít pick the winner either, and if you send her abusive tweets Iíll set fire to your shed.

Iím sorry that Fat Tony form the Rose & Crown pool team didnít get a nomination. Iím sorry that you didnít get an unsung hero nomination for taking your son to A&E after the two-footed lunge you inflicted on him in the park last Sunday (and yes we accept you were going for the ball). Iím sorry that dirty Barry from your local pub team didnít win anything, but being in prison was always going to make that tricky.

So you donít like the person who won? NOBODY ****ING CARES, DEAL WITH IT.

Oh no, not here guv. This is about the travesty of Andy Murray winning sports personality of the year/ Mo Farah not winning it/people saying that AM is quite good at tennis/Nick Skelton coming third when his horse didn't even get a nomination/Chris Froome not getting a nomination (because people suspect him of foreignness).

Basically you become enraged about any, or all, of the above, then complain about it on the Daily Mail website.

I find that not reading the Daily Mail or its website sufficient to insulate me from such issues.

The Daily Wail pales in comparison to the
Daily Brexpress in terms of enraged comments.

Comments on Daily Express articles are often laugh-out-loud funny. It is the spiritual home of the eye-swiveling lunatic fringe.

Spiritual home... it's more the secure accomodation inside a hospital for the criminally insane.

My home page is MSN and some of their journalistic reporting is cringeworthy.

The comment section attached to each story brings out the more colourful idiots contributors.

They amuse me.

Did the Mail and its cohort of commenters also partake in a bit of Lineker
bashing too, last week?

He's been getting some stick for a week or two after a tweet about refugees that questioned where our compassion had gone.

Getting upset about Daily Mail or Express comments is like peeking through your middle-aged neighbours bathroom window and then coming here to rant about saggy boobs and cellulite.

I'm a Times subscriber, but as I've been away sunning myself for the last few weeks I've been intermittently keeping up with their output online - normally I hate reading online newspapers.....and I've been somewhat surprised to find that the online comments section is just like being on a forum - the same deluded/obsessed trolls popping up with a fixed mindset on any topic, and the majority of people ignoring any attempt at debate in their rush to belittle their perceived opponents.

I'm beginning to think this internet thingie is perhaps not an unalloyed boon......
