French Taxi Drivers

They went on strike today and blocked the
autoroute and aeroport in the morning.

Their complaint: that that gouv.fr want to
issue more taxi licences.

No sympathy for the robbing [email protected]
who charge >60 Euros for a 10 minute
ride to/from the aeroport,

(You can rent a car for 40 Euros a day!)

And they stop working after 10pm. One of the real
reasons drink driving is still so high here.

F. them I say!
More taxis, more competition, cheaper and better service.

Too bl**dy right Nev assuming you're talking about the thieving scum who reside outside Nice Airport. I travel extensively and never feel as screwed by a taxi driver as I do when I arrive there and need to be somewhere along the coast. Unfortunately given the location of the nearest station and apathetic nature of the local hotels then nothing'll change.

Re: French Taxi Drivers

Oddly enough I think Paris taxis are good value compared to London ones.

Yup. Those are the ones.

I had one adjust his meter to read 800 FF half
way to Antibes one time.
Aeroport -> Antibes = 11 Km (yes ELEVEN!)

He changed it back after he heard me talking to
the office, on the mobile, in French and realised I
wasn't a tourist.

I think Spain has some of the best taxis

Best - Kuwait - GBP70 for a 5* hotel then 'reasonable' use of an S Class + driver for the duration of stay

Worst - Sharm El Sheikh - old Peugeot 504s with apparently solid tyres, one rear door missing and very little in the way of brakes/steering but a cheery smile, a free bottle of cold water and less than 1GBP for a 10 mile journey

OMG yes, and blindfolds so you can't see how they're driving it. It's nuts over there, checkpoints with guys with guns everywhere

You've got to admire a country that still has the passion to apply root vegetables to its motorways on such a regular basis.

Couldn't agree more. We should apply this tactic in this country when we are confronted by something we won't accept(rising fuel duty etc.). Instead, we sit back and allow it to happen. Vive l'artichoke sur l'autoroute!!

What he said. As if they blocked access to the airport!

That's bang out of order.
