"Haters"

I particularly dislike the polarising use of the word "hater" to describe somebody who has a different opinion to somebody else. Somebody who's not a fan of Audis becomes an Audi hater. These people can coexist with an Audi driver who is probably not an "Audi lover". It's just a lazy and overly emotive way of getting some attention. And I hate laziness.

The former but with the latter to confuse.

I think the "hater" tag, whilst maybe lazy, tends only to get applied when someone exhibits an unreasoning "knee-jerk" antagonism to a make, person, etc, irrespective of any merits.......

Personally I hate hater haters. Or is it hater hater haters?

I think I need some chamomile tea.

Hate is unhealthy.
Have a cuppa and when you start to feel hate, analyse your issues and, having realised what you can actually do about it,
move on.

agree.

or, the flip-side, being labeled a blinded 'fan-boi' because you once said something cheerful about - in this context- an Audi.

When did it all become so simplistic, so black and white and so decontextulised?

I love Alfa to bits, but I'm not fussed on much it made in the last few years bar the new Giulia petrol. Alfa lover or hater?
I don't have a huge amount of time for Audi, but I love the Ur-Quattro and that A4 with the Lambo engine
VW is an easy whipping boy of late, but I have much affection for my old Golfs
I love my Taxi, but fall asleep in the presence of anything MB's made in the last 20 years
I'd struggle to draw a Toyota, but the GT86 is pressing loads of buttons as my next car

I doubt I'm alone here in caring more for a model than a brand, so the crude fan-boi/hater split irks me a bit. But not that much

A driver is always faithful to a car that's always faithful to its driver.

Sometimes in the darkest hour, love comes shining through.
Then it doesn't seem so far from me to you.

With the rise of internet forums and social media, where the intellectually disadvantaged equate a glib "keyboard-bite" with considered critique?

Innit?

I do find this a bit odd. I mostly don't like modern Vauxhall. I drove a new Astra the other week. It was entirely inoffensive but I still don't want one. A Monaco on the other hand.....

Ford H8ers not liking 20 year old rusty Fiestas I can see but not liking GT40s?

I can't think of a single car maker that hasn't made something that I like.

That's the point. Not wanting a car and just avoiding it cannot qualify as hating. Being forced to drive that car is rare unless your company issues you with one. Following a Mercedes CLA wagon is quite an offensive sight come to think of it....

What about Perodua?

I was going to suggest Proton. But then I realised that I quite like the Satria Neo for its rather quirky hot hatch nature.

Perodua's nod to Mary Berry isn't wholly offensive.

Proton Satria GTi. Also quite like the Jumbuck.
Ssangyong Chairman H is beautifully ugly.
Perodua might be the exception that proves the rule.

A Ligier can only be hated if somebody has a better alternative, at their age. A moped may be preferable.
Or of course it's causing an obstruction.

Surely nobody actually hates Ligiers though? They've hardly made any cars at all.

The weird ones are the ones who say they hate Fords (or any other mass market car maker). What is it exactly that they hate? The Transit they used to move house? Boss 429 Mustangs? Sierra Cosworths? GT40s? Rusty 20 year old Fiestas?

They've made a fair few of these:

AM licence vehicle Ligier & Microcar - Ligier

They are rife here.

"Driven" by rich schoolkids and drunks.

And they haven't enough puff to get up
even the slightest incline. Causing massive
tailbacks.

Especially the latter. A great solution to loss of your Permis. . . drive a Sans Permis!

I think we're talking at cross purposes here - to some, Ligier is a manufacturer of racing & sports cars, to some it's a manufacturer of (some of the better?) nasty little mobile chicanes

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Ford, probably down to experiences when I was 17 / 18 years old. I wouldn't call myself a hater though, I prefer to think of myself as 1980 onward Ford averse. I like pre 1980 stuff like Lotus Cortina or Escort Mexico.

Got stuck behind one this morning doing 30
up a hill. The little twerp was texting on his phone
and had the temerity to flash me with his
inadequate "headlights" for overtaking.

Nothing else Ligier does will make up for these
mobile coffins.

H8ful!
