Pet Hates

Apart from the fact that anyone who goes to any event with "Winter Wonderland" mentioned in the advertising blurb and then expects "real" snow and the "real" Santa, I really hate it when the organisers spit out the same old excuses.

No refunds for Bakewell Winter Wonderland 'mud bath' - BBC News

But what really grates on me, is the use of the word "upmost" when it should be "utmost".

I'm sure my writing style annoys people, but hopefully I use the correct words when I write my crap

You wouldn't believe the thousands and thousands of words I've read on this precise wording and whether "think" or "thing" is the correct phrase. Essentially it seems to come down to the geographical areas you grew up in and the historical era of your youth.

This is one of those cases where I just say, "fine, have it whatever way you like it." I know which one I use personally, but if I have to commit pen to paper (or keystrokes to the screen) I make it a point to avoid that phrase entirely, just so that a fight doesn't start about how right or wrong I am.

As a treatment for that condition, I recommend La Belle Noiseuse.

Adults using the word "poo" to refer to excrement. Nobody over five years old should be using such a childish word.
