"Forever homes etc"

Although it is not a new phenomenon I am increasingly hearing this phrase particularly with people buying houses or giving a stray animal a home.

As far as I am aware non of us or our pets are immortal.

So what we should be saying is:-

"This dog/we is/are looking for a home to live in until we die."

Or even why not use the normal:-

"This dog/we is/are looking for a permanent home".

Get it right....grrrrrrrr.

You could look at this as a healthy move from buying and selling houses to make a quick buck?
I don't read any concepts of immortality into it.

What happens if someone takes on a "forever home" animal and then finds
their dream "forever home" dwelling but there are no pets allowed?

It becomes a "fornever" home.

The lack of security of tenure provided by a rental home, one which may ban pets, makes this unlikely?
A freehold property is unlikely to ban them. However , some may need to downsize later in life to a retirement flat.

If that's what the nurse tells you, you've got to believe them.

Marriage is forever, or does it just feel like that?

Never heard the phrase before

This phrase was bandied about when we were going through the adoption process.

Always thought it was weird because I intend on kicking them out when they're 16.

Struth, there are DOL people in every other forum!

I think Forever is a sales ploy, how often does one hear "I was thinking of keeping this one for myself"? Similar principle, you are verbally elevating the item with a fluff/puff attribute.

I'd never heard of it so, like the fool I am, I looked it up.

I wish I hadn't - I feel a little ill. If Heaven is eternity playing with a dog or whatever I think that Hell cannot be that bad. Sentimental twaddle. Yes grief for a pet is normal but get real ffs.

Right then - as Mr Empathy I will now try to find out what "DOL" stands for - I can hardly wait.

Mainly because the people involved in writing this twaddle are mawkish and soppy-brained. Well meaning, but not the best copy writers around. As above, "rainbow bridge" is another example of the style. These peoples scribblings used to be confined to newsagents windows, the internet makes them visible to a global population.

addo ^^ has kindly explained it to me.

It stands for "Dogs on Line" and I will leave you to decide it's nature - it is actually about dogs rather than a derogatory site with reference to human appearances.
