Chilling Drift Smokers

Smokers: If you enjoy lighting up and puffing on
your filthy cancers sticks whilst outside at a bar,
cafe or restaurant then you are perfectly within
your rights to do so.

However if you just sit there with it between your
fingers, limp wrist draped over a chair back or table,
smoke drifting over everyone, then you are just an
inconsiderate **** hole.

Do the right thing and stick that filthy length of
death in your fat gob and suck on it.

As a bonus you might even be protecting your
noisy offspawn from an early grave in doing so.

I imagine this is more of a EU problem ( ) but when i'm in that situation, I always try to make sure I'm down-wind of other cafe users.
If I need a fag, then I will always consider other people first.
We aren't all bastages, you know.

They spoil all the outside spaces now, beer gardens, terraces and most annoyingly the outside breakfast areas when your on holiday and have a chance to eat out, as soon as they've gobbled their brekkie the cancer sticks are out regardless.

It's not the smokers in general that
grip my ****.
(Although I am less tolerant of it these days.)

It's the fact they spark up and DON'T smoke it.

Next time I'm just going to pee on them.

It's the only language they would understand.

and then hold it away from themselves as if they want to avoid the drifting smoke.

Then there are those who walk down a crowded street with the lit cigarette held at waist level pointing out and oblivious that the hot ash might well be at a child's eye level.

Twas a refreshing change a few years ago when smoking was banned in pubs

It meant going for a night out and not coming home smelling like a used ashtray

As an ex-smoker I still enjoy the aroma - especially when it's outside and not too overpowering. Plus you meet some interesting people standing outside a bar shielding your fag from wind and rain. I do miss that.

Agreed. At least if they smoke the thing they filter some of the crap.

I changed supermarket because the one I used to go to always had a gang of future NHS burdens around the doors. Bad enough breathing in the bus exhausts and trying to dodge the chuggers but the smokers were the last flippin straw !

A real missed opportunity with the smoking ban was not putting a provision in the law which enabled public places to have a 'smoking room' you could limit its size relative to the establishment (say no more than 20% of the public area) and ensure it had an extraction system, even charge for time spent in it. Non smokers stay smoke free, smokers can pop in for a cigarette and then the crowds of people outside the doors with smoke drifting everywhere would be eliminated.

That's a problem that needs to be addressed. Several US states have laws which prohibit smoking within a certain distance (typically 20ft) from an entrance - California goes further & includes openable windows in that prohibition.

Nostrils assaulted from both sides.

Segregation is the only way forward.

Excluding clubs, here you have to smoke 5 metres or more from a commercial or multiple dwelling doorway. The clubs are allowed to have a designated smoking area that's covered, it is usually (de facto) walled in with clear vinyl drapes or similar and is accessed through a self closing door.

I dated a woman who was a heavy smoker, and while I was OK with just her smoking, these hothouses of fumes in clubs absolutely smashed my eyes; it was painful. (It wasn't smoking that ended the relationship, it was her OTT drinking.)

In France they have circumvented the law by the use of awnings and wind breakers.
So long as there is no fixed roof you are allowed to smoke.

Example, you could smoke in the front section of this restaurant
because it has roll-up panel walls and a roll-back tarp roof :

Even when it's closed off.

That's more or less how the clubs and restaurants do it here.
