MS sufferer? Should really use any allowance(if she gets one) for taxis, or hire cars? Dangerous maintenance of ones independence? Empathy, but common sense should prevail, and she ought to be told this in a compassionate way?:

Ridiculous when there are far better and more confident drivers than this being failed on their tests because they moved a few inches too far/close to the kerb on a manoeuvre

10 mph in a Pedura Wotsit, must have been chipped !
I think the magistrate was fair in making her re-take her driving test as she has certain fear's about driving, she will possibly overcome them or finaly resign herself to give up driving.

There are thousands of elderly drivers who should have been made to give up driving years ago (or volunteered to give the licence up) but they don't, because they feel that they're safe doing 50mph on the motorway and veering wildly down lanes, braking at random moments and peering through specs with their nose pushed against the windscreen.

'I've been driving 40 years, and never had an accident, son' they tell you.

'No, but I bet you've seen a lot in your mirrors, pops'

Re: Madness - how not to drive

She will get whatever she wants, gave up long ago trying to influence her mind-set. I have checked the 'pushing weight' of the Picanto, so I may have less trouble with it back-rolling over me, with luck.

Re: Madness - how not to drive

I am for older drivers having to do an assesment when they get to a certain age. Maybe like a car equivalent of a motorcycle CBT as well as a medical and a hazard perception test.

Don't get me wrong I like older folk, but some of driving I get to see by them is downright dangerous.

Though on the other hand some younger drivers are bad as well..

Suppose I'm in the 'persecuted' old driver category without a doubt? OK, keystroke re-action competition again? My shakes always give me a decided advantage, so watch out for this high scorer!!

Re: Madness - how not to drive

58 Is not old just think anyone can pass their test and drive straight onto a motorway at 10 miles an hour.

She thinks she is being a safe driver but could have killed many people as they suddenly swerved into the next lane to avoid the slow moving car in front of her.

There is a strech of road by me where at one end the speed limit is 30 and at the opposite end 40, howver been these two points the limit is 60.

the number of deaths / accidents on this road is amazing as people fail to see the 60 signs and carry on at 30 / 35MPH - everyone is trying to get around these drivers.

they are quick enough painting 30MPH on the floor as you enter a limited area - how about painting 60 on the floor as you exit the 30 limit - maybe people will speed up and then we will have less accidents as people do not tyr to overtake in stupid areas.

Re: Madness - how not to drive

people who have absolutely no confidence in driving on motorways really shouldn't be going on motorways, it's as simple as that. even doing 40-50 on a motorway is dangerous - some woman was doing just that on the M66 last week and i watched loads of cars have to take avoiding action because of her. but no doubt she was convinced that it is in fact her who's the safe driver and all the people around her doing 70 are maniacs
