F*****g speed cameras

Visiting the missus' parents in Uttoxeter, got flashed by a gatso doing 35 in a 30 (my mistake I know but read on).......

It was a normal gatso camera, I was facing uphill but the camera was facing downhill and it flashed twice.

Can I still be done?

Don't quote me on it but i think if you get 3 flashes in rapid succession, it's a nick.

Best bet is to wait till you get a NIP through the door (if you do - fingers crossed for you)

3? they normaly go twice but that dont mean there is film in either, I heard if it flashes once it has no film but was told later by a member of plod that they can all be set or changed to do what they want? if you have a detector it will tell you if its a live camera as in ready to nick you

Re: Fecking speed cameras

It wouldn't have been a Truvelo of course, they don't flash because flashing in your eyes would be dangerous. It's the Gatsos that flash, from behind. I think you're OK .

Re: Fecking speed cameras

Yeah - if its a normal gatso and it's facing you it must have got the other car going in the opposite direction

Re: Fecking speed cameras

As said above, if it was a Gatso your o.k.

As seen on Top Gear some time ago, if you drive at 170MPH they do not flash !

Re: Fecking speed cameras

I've only ever been flashed once and it was by a Gatso facing towards me. It was a tense two weeks but nothing came from it

Re: Fecking speed cameras

If it's a Gatso looking towards you, it's looking at cars speeding on the other carriageway, therefore you are 'out of shot' and safe, however it was triggered.

Re: Fecking speed cameras

As you were traveling towards the Gatso, wouldn't your speed be "Negative' ie minus 35 mph

Re: Fecking speed cameras

There is a Gatso in Dartford that used to be triggered by (I think) branches moving on a nearby tree. It flashed as I drove towards it on a number of occasions, and left me with an anxious couple of weeks. Notinhg ever came of it, though, and I haven't noticed it doing it lately, so either the radar gun has been shifted, or the offending branches cut down (or whatever it was).

...... Thinking about it, I wonder if the beam can be reflected off a stationary object (eg a parked van) behind, and then onto my car as I drive towards the camera.... then the speed-adjusted reflection comes off my car, back onto the van (or whatever), and back to the detector, thereby triggering the flash??? The picture thus taken shows a stationary van! And confuses the poor person looking at the piccies???

Re: Fecking speed cameras

ive been flashed a few times by gatsos and never had anything as much as a telling off! most seem to be out of film most the time!

as for this one, yeah as said, they take ass shots so it didnt get you

driving forward towards them 'can' trigger them but they cant do you for it!

I got done by a mobile unit, 200 yards after a Gatso on the A3 - 50mph on a duel carriage way - slowed down for the Gatso, sped up to over 60 and then had my collar felt round the corner! Surrey Camera Saftey Partnership my ass!

Not good news Howell - My brother in law is in the plod squad and he hates the money grabbing scum with vengence.

I got done about 3 years ago by a mobile unit - there was no signs and I swore blind that I did not see any vans.

A few months later I saw them where I had got done - they were hiding in amoungst the parked cars - I think there are rules stating that they must be visible from a certain distance.

Nothing but money grabbing schemes for the local councils.

Hope you were not done

Apparently in Bridgend warning signs are displayed as you enter the county, because of this they say they do not have to display signs near the camera.

Mate of mine is a traffic cop, says the same thing as your brother-in-law.

Fingers crossed for the next 2 weeks, but I'll be expecting the envelope.

Re: F*****g speed cameras

I think you're okay. This exact thing happened to me and it was fine. IF tehre are no white markings on the side of the road you were on, I don't think you can be done by a Gatso at all.
