Moaning Bacon? wtf!

Gah! another glorious hangover ruined! I had to settle for "normal" bacon today and it shall be the last. WTF is up with all the water in it?
The only type I can munch now is the expensive dry-cured stuff, as anything else seems to be covered in snot when fried.

All that watery, goobery stuff that comes out of it is just bleagh!
Is nothing sacred anymore?!

Those who live near the cradle of civilisation that is the Potteries will attest to the importance of placing only the choicest bacon within your rolled-up oatcake.

Aldi and Lidl's dry cured bacon is cheaper and still the biz (acording to Mr PG - I only eat pretend bacon!)

That's what they do to get the weight up and presumably make it more juicy

Dry cured and smoked bacon/ham is the way to go

Make sure its not Danish, Bacon reared under Veal Crates, saves on feeding the Pigs, After all the Calves can't use all of the nutrients they are forced to eat
Allways buy local and Quality, its only cheap for a reason

Completely agree with you. Had exactly that conversation with MrsJim a few days ago. We are paying pork prices for water half the time. Grrr!

Rather than having to label a product as being 'premium' by naming it dry cured (which is what it probably was in the good ol' days anyway), why not pass a law that says the stuff that passes for bacon has to have a label that says full of added water that will shrivel the bacon when cooked and nitrates that mess your guts up? Or indeed, why can't products that are 'healthy' because they contain no added sugar, be forced to carry a large banner stating this product contains Aspartame which won't make you fat but will possibly kill you. Or why aren't manufacturers forced to put labels on that say this product contains hydrogenated fats, they have no business being there in the first place but because our adverts tell you how smoooooth they make it to make you buy it, it must be your fault because you asked for it, you stupid consumer? Then everyone would know where they stood!

Food technologists, don'tcha just love 'em?
