I love Christmas but I don't think anyone, except shopkeepers really enjoy the commercial aspect to it.

Re: Xmas is ...

X-mas holidays suck big time....not only is it the busies time (work 16 hour days, 7 days a week for 4 weeks) of the year, people (SA) are also the rudest .....Can't wait for 15 Jan to come around the holiday being over and every one has gone home....then we can welcome all the friendly international tourist back....

Re: Xmas is ...

Have to search for the 'real' spirit of Christmas from the inside.: I love Christmas, the birth of, prior to the follow up of his death, which to my mind is as much, if not more significant than Christmas? Just my personal view, of course.:

Re: Xmas is ...

Sadly it is too commercial now. But then people have been saying that for 30+ years.

It is and can be what you decide to make it.

Re: Xmas is ...

Christmas will mean different things to everyone of course.

I love Christmas (ignore the avatar!!) - I love the pagan bits (the tree lights and the decorations, the food and the drink!) as much as the Christian bits (the celebration of the birth of Jesus with the present giving, the carols etc).

I don't like the commercialism, I don't like the expectation of huge presents (especially by kids) and I don't like the take-over of what is a holy festival by people who couldn't care less about the symbolism.

We have a deal in our house. Mr PG and I spend under £20 on each other. Our presents can be small, funny - anything. Last year he got an Etch-a-Sketch to do autocad on and some Santa rubber gloves for the washing up.

... A time for family, friends and other loved ones to eat too much, drink a little bit too much, and just have a great time.

It's also raising a glass to wish good health to all, and to remember lost friends

Re: Xmas is ...

Quite right paintergirl. Should have added those at the end of the post.

No kids any more - 23 and 25 yeas old now. It was only ever for the kids.

"Please mister, can I have some more?"
"No you bl00dy well can't - you're much to old for all that kind of canoodling nonsense. Now get back to your zimmer."

Re: Xmas is ...

Our Christmas, is just that, ours.May sound rather selfish, but it's personal, apart from the shared occasions with the folk at church,. Family gathering, and boy do they enjoy.: Always memorable, never a disappointment. Very satisfying, and thoroughly enjoyable. It's a great occasion for our collective.: Admire the Sally Bash folks, and the Crisis people who volunteer over the holiday, to give the less fortunate than ourselves some cheer at Yuletide.: Goodly Folk, they are.

I love Christmas and am particulary looking forward to this one, my first in Bristol with Lynn, her family and my family. And fortunately we can shut the door and keep all the cynics out

Re: Xmas is ...

.............what you make it I suppose.

A lot of hassle at times but great for young children.

I am looking forward to the time off work and time with my family but I always enjoy the days between Christmas and the New Year the best for some reason?

Re: Xmas is ...

Always been very fond of Christmas and the Festive Season in general. And as an Athiest I recognise that it's not really a Christian festival - just one they stole from the pagans to fit in with the culture

Whatever it means to you the most important aspect is the time made for friends, family and sharing.

Happy Christmas Everyone
