Re: How long has your MAF lasted???

Hmmm Interesting... I'm basically trying to figure out when the failure occurs on average.

Re: How long has your MAF lasted???

Mine is at 65000 km (ca 41000 miles). I assume it's still OK.

Do they tend to degrade/break suddenly or do they slowly deteriorate so that you gradually get used to the drop in performance without really noticing?

Re: How long has your MAF lasted???

Mine is at 65k, but i dunno if it's been done or not. Had the car since August, performance feels pretty good though, and the book is full of Alfa stamps, so I reckon I'm ok for now at least

The unit dies and then it is almost impossible to get any power out of the car above 4000 RPM.

Re: How long has your MAF lasted???

My last one lasted 6 months. The good thing of such a short lifespan was that it was done under warranty (waaay). Think the one before that was original. Car is now on 67k miles so original lasted 60k.

There are a variety of problems that can result from a dodgy MAF. As mentioned by OA loss of power above 4000 is one - my failure left me dead in the water. I didn't know this at the time but I could have disconnected the MAF and driven away but I thought I was out of go go juice (ahem).

Cheers

Re: How long has your MAF lasted???

I have owned 13 Alfa's and only had to change one. And that was dodgy when I bought the car.

An excellent poll.

I was considering a similar 1 for timing belts..V6 or twin and mileage belt snapped if not replaced at recommended interval or snapped before the recommended interval...Just not worked out all the permutations yet....However a good subdivision would be genuine or copy ...how long did it last.

Another difficulty is the amount of owners a car has had and if codes are not passed on I cannot see info about a maf being passed on.

Pomeo's if original went at 86k after timing belt fail.

Laceys went rough but still good for most purposes at 116k.

So I'll opt for the average at 101K

Magic...the £40 is a surplus clearance offer. Check out the real price and you'll get a fright

Re: How long has your MAF lasted???

Maybe we need to organise a day on an airstrip, line up loads of similarly-engined cars, and have a big mass drag race, to show if anyones MAF is dead or dying.

Nothing to do with racing, or thrashing our cars, god forbid, but I'm sure none of us would want to drive round with what could be a defective MAF would we?

I replaced the MAF on my little Twinny when the car was 6 years old and had covered 55,000 miles.

MAF on my 156 started to play up just before I got the Brera last year, which was around 78k (miles!) and 7 years.

As far as I know I'm still on the original at 92k - although I do think it might be on the way out...

Re: How long has your MAF lasted???

I voted for 10,000 - 20,000 but I only voted for this because there wasn't an option for below 10,000. Mine lasted 6,000 miles.
