When you buy petrol

In the past, when I filled the car with petrol I would just put a certain amount in based upon the cost (usually 20 worth). However, now I usually just fill it to the top as I can't be bothered stopping for petrol all the time.

What do you do when you fill up?

I always fill her up. I have to be careful with the spider though, she overfills very quickly so I stop before she's full. I don't like the smell of gas in the car.

Re: When you buy petrol

I check under the hood myself every other day and top up as needed. So only need to stop twice a month for a full tank
and the argument that it add x amount of extra weight is bull

Re: When you buy petrol

Fill it up.

Only exception is if I'm running out and there's only an Asda or something nearby - then it's just a few litres to get me to the next proper filling station.

Never let the tank go below 1/4, always fill up and reset the Odometer.

Re: When you buy petrol

I think before everyone had credit cards people used to fill up to exact values eg 10.

But now with credit cards it makes no difference if you're paying 40 or 47.27 - so I fill up

Re: When you buy petrol

I normally just put 20 in a reset the odometer. My car tends to sit unused for days on end so don't see the point in filling it up.

Re: When you buy petrol

I haven't put a set amount in since I was 19 and driving my mums Renault 5 and would just stick in £2 or £5 as I was a poor student!

For years I have filled up to the top - maximum range and minimum chance of buggering the injectors. On my new alfa the orange right has only ever been allowed to flick on once for a few seconds. There are a small number of cheaper petrol stations I fill up at whenever around 1/4 tank.

Re: When you buy petrol

I put in a set amount, usually 15 or 20, If I know the car has a full tank of fuel I would be tempted to go out for a drive just for the sake of it.

Also travelling with a full tank makes the car heavier and worse on fuel, as well as slightly slower.

Re: When you buy petrol

I shut my eyes and let it go til it clicks and try not look at the amount when I pay, as it is always by card, carrying that amount of cash around would be stupid

Re: When you buy petrol

I don't cover big miles now,so I usually get £30 per week, but by the third or fourth week,I don't need any.I dont like my car sitting with a full tank.If it was nicked they could drive it for 500 miles!Years ago my Mum's mini was stolen, but she never had any petrol in it.If she was going out she'd get something stupid like £1 (you could in those days) Anyway the car ran out of fuel about a mile from our house and the thieves had to abandon it!

I usually fill up with a set value usually £20 at a time, never usually let it fall below the 1/4 tank.
