Interesting stuff!

I have some green stuff - possibly tree deposits or mildew - around the edges of my plastic screen on my soft top.

Anyone any suggestions for removing that.

(I've used Renovo plastic glass renovation stuff for the scratches, but doesn't touch the green/mildewy ****e).

Yip, the Quick Clay is very easy to use, but, then again so are all the Meguire products I've tried so far

Any type of lens cleaning solution should be
good. They're mostly alcohol. (Check a small
area before use though.)

Got this from the autoglym web:

Tar spots are unsightly and stain certain paint finishes. Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover instantly dissolves tar on paintwork and plastics, enabling it to be wiped off, or washed away during a routine shampoo.

Use to remove oil, grease, silicones, wax, gum, resinous tree sap, fuel stains and adhesive residues.

Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover can also be used on rubber, synthetic carpets and upholstery to remove oil-based stains.

Re: Which cleaning product is better?

I have to say that I am a bit of a Jesse whenit comes to cleaning the car. For years I didn't relly bother with any other wax/polish/gel other than Autoglym products. I bought a bottle of Meguiars Gold Class on recommendationa while ago and it absolutely knocks spots of the Autoglym - even the Extra Gloss polish.

I also use Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer which is excellent for the external plastics and I'm sorry to say, Meg's for teh tyre shine too. I have stuck to the Autogllym products for the interior. However......

LaSt week I bought a time of Meguiars Number16 Mirror Glaze Wax Paste and it really is outstanding - if you're fussy, like me!

Re: Which cleaning product is better?

Can anyone explain to me why meguirs makes using the chamois a pig and why it leaves a horrible white residue on the windscreen? Everyone who uses it seems to think it's wonderful but that's my experience. I prefer Autoglym - it's a good product that's dead easy to use.

Never had that experience. Meg's Gold Class shampoo, 5x cap to 5l of hot water. Don't use chamois anymore though. Found microfiber clothes to be better and more versatile. Toweling type one for the body and flat weave for the glas and detailing. When you're done you just stick them in the washing machine (n.b. NO conditioner ) and much much cheapness compaired to dead goat skin

Re: Which cleaning product is better?

Other for me.

There are a mountain of products, good and bad available and prices vary greatly.

I've tried (and own) loads always looking for what works best and reduces the time I spend looking after my bella. Preparation is the key.

Meguirs (current fave is Ultimate Quik Detailer , never seen a product bead and shift water as well as it does and its very easy to use) and Autoglym are fine for general use, but there are some fantastic products out there and paying for a better quality sealant and wax, which can last longer and you use less of, can make good economic sense.

I like Chemical Guys stuff and their new wax, Pete's 53, really is the dogs ********* and far superior to Swissvax's Scuderia.

Although I confess to having used ZipWax car wash (with wax) for around 20 years now and have found little to beat it for washing.

I also use a good quality chamois (habits are hard to break!!)

Thanks Frank, you've adopted the same view as David. You can rely on your friends to slate your obsessive habits!!!! And if you think the boots bad, you should see the garage.

Now I just need Fraser to remind me I should have a 159 Sportwagon to carry it all and make it easier to find

Re: Which cleaning product is better?

For general washing of cars I like Zymol Autowash
I like Autoglym Interior shampoo on fabric interior
For 'waxing' Zymol Concours wax (red Alfa) ..
First time cleaning or on a very 'dirty' car ,3M Clay bar (Blue) or eqivalent
On a 'cleanish' car, before a rewax, then Pinnacle Ultra Fine clay (aqua colour)

For removing of wax I use Microbre cloths and a microfibre Polyweave for drying car.....

But in the end, if it works for you, then it is good

Re: Which cleaning product is better?

I use the Halfrauds regular waxy shampoo, normal sponge, followed by a rinse and a chammy, followed by Turtle Wax/Colour Magic. Mr Muscle glass cleaner, Back-to-Black and Halfrodo Tyre Black spray.

I use regular cleaning cloths, old towel, you name it... but always clean ones.

I think I get good results.. and at very reasonable prices cf. the "posh" products.

I'm not convinced about spending a fortune on these top-end products. I try them from time to time and I've never been able to see a difference, if I'm honest. May try that clay-bar thing though...

I wash my car probably every 3 weeks. It was Soviet Marshal Timoshenko (I think) who said "Quantity is a quality all of its own".

They'd want to be for what they charge here. Having said that I've got about $500 worth of their stuff. The Alfa/Maserati/Ferrari dealers in Australia I have dealt with strongly recommend their products.

Not to be a smartarse but it's Meguiars. I'm always caught out with the spelling myself.
