New or Old?

If you had 20k to spend would you buy a brand spanking new car or go for second hand?

I'd go for second hand, for 20k you could get a great GTA for weekends and a everyday runner like a Golf or Clio. But go for new and you could get a great Alfa now could you? Or am I wrong?

Re: New or Old?

Old - £20k would get me a fully restored Austin Healey

(But only if I could keep my 159 )

Re: New or Old?

Old, every time.

20k doesn't actually get you much new car for your money. And when you come to sell it a few years later you'll be left wondering where the other 10k went

Re: New or Old?

20k would buy an immaculate 'nearly new' s2000. Possibly the greatest available purchase in this price range

Old, the depreciation of ANY new car is vast, let alone an Alfa!

Re: New or Old?

Old for me... something without Blur and Me, auto-dipping windscreen wipers, self-cancelling lights, EBR, BSD, VD, HIV...

Not a fan of technology...

That TVR would seem to be more like it... but I bet they cluttered the cabin with those silly door pulls hidden inside the glove box etc.

No, me. It's a good feeling to treat yourself every now and then, despite the hit.

Very nice, however if you took a trip to the states you'd be able to source a similar example at a mere fraction of that huuuuuge price tag!

Re: New or Old?

Old = less depreciation. Bad enough my £7500 V6 is worth about the same as a book of second class stamps, can't imagine choking on the £25K new price tag then watching it melt away to £7k or even £2K
