The train :(

It's an old CRT which is so large that it comes with its own built in stand and I always thought it was a 24" but I think it might be bigger than that.

Matters not one jot to me really, as she is the Goggle Box fan, with me rarely getting my choice of programmes, so I concede defeat and let her get on with it.

Part of my motivation for arsking is because our 42, although doing a grand job (as far as my rheumy old squinters can tell), has a knacky remote control.....and I wondered what people do after 42" tellys. I look at the room and think that I could not conceive that a 55" screen would even fit. It will. But would it feel as if it had entirely taken over the room (and our lives with it). I may be living in denial here.

The price of the things is pretty much ridiculous now. £400 guarantees you a 48-50" big brand with multi HDMI, USB etc. (I cannot be ersed with 3D gimmicks).

We just went from 42" in the living room to a 65". It got delivered earlier this week.

To be honest, I got a bit carried away with the ludicrously cheap prices and the minimal difference in cost between a 50 and a 65.... and the fact that when in the shop, even a 65 looks small when it's surrounded by 72s and 80+ things and they are curved and all sorts.

I wish I hadn't now. It looks stupidly big. I hope I get used to it. Our house here has an open plan living room, dinning room and kitchen so it doesn't dominate the room, but sitting in front of it I find a bit overwhelming.

The old 42" has replaced the smaller TV that my son uses for his XBOX. I keep walking past it and giving it a whistful look....

You wouldn't be able to vote if that was the case, they don't have your size.

This is worth reading , for the recommendation of size for viewing distance.
What size TV should I buy? - Televisions reviews - TV and home entertainment - Which? Tech
56" for 14' viewing distance.

I was an early adopter of LCD and many moons ago paid a small fortune for a 30" Sharp Aquos just before they got much cheaper and better...
Having wanted to replace it for years, I'd been looking with envious interest at tvs in friends houses and decided that 42" was a decent size without being too big. Last year I bought a 42" Sony and am very happy with the size and quality.

My old mate has a 21inch CRT and when I visit him it always has my attention, it seems decades since I had/watched one that small.

We have a 42 inch which is more than adequate, I find the million inch TV my sister has to be vulgar, dontcha know.

Look on the Which chart and if necessary then move closer to the telly. Closer for a fully immersive experience .
