Combination of things really - price, origin and especially fair trade produce (thinking Bananas here but would seek this stuff out in other product lines)

I don't want to have to cruise the supermarkets for it though - wastes fuel etc., etc.

Need some more options Mike, such as non-GM etc.

I prefer to buy local, organic produce from local veg stalls and markets. It's fresher, tastier, and supports your local community...

... win/win situation.

I grow my own vegies and my parents also grow vegies.
The fertile delta I live on grows incredible produce so I also buy locally and unsprayed if possible.

I prefer local organic, but obviously with things like oranges that's not always possible

Tend to buy organic, but here the real risk is to end up with fruit & veg from China (where they use tonds of pollutants), so we try to be careful and only shop from the better outlets.

As I saw this Thread, directly below it was Happy Mans 'The Length of it' thread.

Meaning I read it as 'When buying fruit and veg, what is your top priority? The length of it!'. Ah, fun times, that just wipes me out...

But other, as I don't buy fruit or veg. The healthy chap I am!

European produced (French/Italian/Spanish) stuff or
French DOM/TOM produce.

I always buy organic food, as inorganic
food wouldn't actually be edible, would it.

I look for fresh fruit and veg that looks like it might last more than a couple of days once I get it home. And I rarely buy food that is labelled organic unless they run out of normal stuff.

Origin for me. Not bothered about it being organic or not (as Nev points out, it's all organic or it wouldn't be edible).

We've always grown our own veg. but when it comes to fruit it must be in season (in this country) and not therefore transported halfway around the world. Exotic fruit (bananas!) etc. must be fair trade etc.

Re: When buying your fruit and veg what is your top priority...

I pick my Doughnuts straight from the tree....

I ate a fig earlier tonight. A mate used to grow them in his hot house in the Dales..we used to sit there as warm as toast in the dead of winter with a glass of wine and eating figs off the tree...bliss.

We have good intentions where fuit and veg are concerned, but do not live up to them often enough.
