Rate your driving ability

A very self explanatory poll

So how do you rate your ability as a driver??

Re: Rate your driving ability

Mine is declining with age and _not_ racing go-karts in the last 4 years. Already.

But now that I'm fully settled in Italy, it's time to get back on track, literally, even if I only do it once or twice a month.

Re: Rate your driving ability

I think I am pretty good. I certainly think I have room to improve though.

I am much better than many of the idiots I see on the road, who tailgate, overtake when its not safe, speed in built-up areas etc IMO, though I probably have a few faults of my own.

Re: Rate your driving ability

I'd class my self as (UK) average.

No track experience, driving on roads for 20 years.
10 of which were in a foreign country.
Which in some repects helps: expect the unexpected
and other not. (e.g. Not stopping at all crossing
in case the car behind slams into you rear.)

Have to say, driving a Brera has mellowed my
more aggressive driving.

Re: Rate your driving ability

Hmm, tricky. How do you define good driving?

I'd say that I conduct my driving safely for my passengers and other road users, making good progress without compromising safety or the traffic flow or the needs of other road users. And I do it with a smile, a wave, and a rooting, hooting, tooting when needed ;-)

I'm alright I guess. No one's moaned yet :-)

Re: Rate your driving ability

I'd say good, rather than very good or excellent, despite 25 years driving experience. I always think its dangerous to over rate yourself as a driver.

I have done track days, quarter mile days, 0-60 days, but would like to be a better driver. I think my cars have always been better than my own driving ability!

I think that quality of driving comes not from how fast you can drive, but rather what you observe and your levels of 'other driver awareness'.

Cheers

went for good, i dont crash, i dont get wound up by idiots and i can drive at a fair pace and keep it a smooth ride.

ive been driving since i was 14 and ive never found a vechile i couldnt drive including lorries, watercraft, bikes, agricultural vechiles and anything else ive come across.

but i dont that i could position in a race but i reckon i could set a decent lap time with some practice on the track.

Don't honestly know: Probably not that good, experienced on a number of wheelers, and trackers, but find it difficult contending with the 'chancers' buzzin' about. Probably almost over the hill, but ever optimistic.:

Re: Rate your driving ability

In terms of observation and anticipation I'd say I'm very good and my car handling skills aren't bad either. BUT I take too many risks sometimes and I can get impatient and a bit wound up. Because I tend to concentrate on my driving to the detriment of all else when I'm in the car I will mark myself as good.

Maybe, but I'm making the judgement based on my driving experiences and training. I drove many miles on twisty tracks cut in the desert sands in Botswana. Honed my handling skills nicely but when I got back to the UK I frightened myself half to death because I couldn't cope with the fact there were other cars on the road. So I did an advanced driving course and joined a driving club where I got the chance to do skid training and speed manouvering in controlled conditions as well as observed runs (both as observed and observer). All very useful to hone the skills, but it's difficult to iron out personality "traits" ( ). I do get better with age though
