What premium car brand

Given Hunter et al's problems with Alfa Romeo at the moment, one could quite understand why one might be put off buying an Alfa Romeo

However, lets face it, the choice for a premium sporting saloon is pretty limit - so what would your alternative be?

Re: What premium car brand

Personally I'd go for a Jag'. They are obviously trying to update their image and appeal to younger people (like me ), and at least its British (sort off).

Re: What premium car brand

Are we forgetting the hatchbacks, if the 147 had never existed, I'd probably be in an A3 or a Golf.

Jags are now Mondeos with different shells and a couldn't join BMW, everyone I know that ownes a beemer is an absolute ****, without fail.

Wouldn't buy another saloon, too much hassle to get anything of a decent size in the boot.

Re: What premium car brand

Jag, because that was the 2nd most enjoyable car I drove before I got the 159, but the new A4 might be of interest when it comes out. The SAAB 9-3 is also sort of interesting, but it's really a Vectra. I also like the look of the new C-class, but it's expensive and the interior looks cack. BMW's rep is overblown.

Not sure about the premise "if Alfa don't get their act sorted out". Despite Hunter's problems I firmly believe they're on the right road.

None of the above, there all way too common a sight.

How about a new Dodge Charger?

Re: What premium car brand

lets see, don't like SAAB (GM is killing them!), Audi's don't interest me (if i wanna VW I'll buy a VW!)Mercesdes are comfy but thats just so when it breaksdown you'll be ok (oh & it will breakdown), I like Jags but would never buy one(i'm not an OAP!) ...oh hell, i love Alfa's but if i couldn't buy one, it'd have to be a BMW, they really are such a nice car to drive (if not to look at!)

Oh and Jag is British??? yeah right about as British as Land Rover!

I voted 'other', but having thought about it, it'd have to be a Beemer...

Re: What premium car brand

BMW - good engines but weird design
Audi - VERY boring to drive
Jaguar - don't like the new design, too much Ford in there

Would probably stick to something Italian (used Maserati, new Fiat Bravo)

As we get Lancia over here, that might be an option. Had two Kappa (2.0 5-cylinder and 3.0 Arese V6), they were really excellent although the design was not that great. A Lancia Thesis would be nice, although very hard to sell as it was a complete flop.

Lexus aren't bad either. Drove a new GS300 which was really very comfortable, but not sporty at all. Maybe an IS, although I'm not sure that its engines are that great.

No Volvo's so far?

Forgot about Lancia. It would be a possibility if they returned to the UK but I think most of their current cars look awful.

Funnily enough, I was just looking at them yesterday. They are err, odd aren't they? The interiors are good though - although some of the options and colour combinations are nausea-inducing!!!

Back to the point. Voted Jag because of the new XF or whatever it's called. That looks pretty tasty as does the new XK - though I wouldn't buy that. Can't stand the X-type which is more my price bracket. I've had an A4 and wouldn't want another unless it was an RS4 Avant (out of my league again)

TBH - I'm not sure what I'd have in my price range IRL. Don't much like theSaab 9-3, Accord is worthy but dull, BMW no ta, Lexus no, Scooby too boy-racer, Passat I s'pose the latest looks OK and is a good daily/work option.

New Merc C class. I'll take that....today. Not a very well considered result but I've only got half an hour of lunch time left!

Re: What premium car brand

You haven't really thought about it have you; considering you left Saab, Volvo and Lexus off

If I didn't get another Alfa I think it's likely I'd get a Saab - this one with their 4wd system. You could get the 280bhp engine re-mapped pretty easily and end up with a very fast car

Saab 9-3 TurboX

Oh, and yes its nowhere near as attractive as a 159

I wouldn't buy a NEW one of any of them, but maybe a good used high spec version of an Audi, BMW etc. I don't care much for the latest Jags.
