Re: Jim Davidson

I think he's okay, but Legend is probably too strong, whilst bell-end is too harsh

PS - my brother and I are not related

Re: Jim Davidson

He cannot be that bad, as he made Jethro famous.

Jethro is a Legend IMO.

Re: Jim Davidson

I don't see him as either,he's just failed to move with the times in some ways. I take it you are referring to the Hells Kitchen stuff? I reckon Brian Dowling is over sensitive to the likes of him and his 70's attitude. Out in the real world lots of folk talk and think like Jim Davidson, not to be deliberately offensive but because they don't know any better.

Re: Jim Davidson

He's adapted his act to suit over the years. No more Chalky IIRC. He'd have fitted in well in Life on Mars

Does a lot for the troops remember

This is true, but it doesn't mean we should pat them on the back and congratulate them for it!

Re: Jim Davidson

Arch tory Jim Davidson said he was going to emigrate as soon as Labour won the election in 1997. He didn't.

Now I don't mind what a persons politics are (I'm an arch leftie and hate New Labour and Tories alike) but I can't stand people who threaten to do something in the public arena and don't follow it up.

For that reason alone, Jim Davidson = Bell End

Probably done more for this country/troops in Iraq etc than that "Brian". Also genuinely funny.

Gotta be a Legend

Re: Jim Davidson

I had no idea why this thread was posted. Having now read the details, my original opinion of bell-end is much re-inforced.

Re: Jim Davidson

Yes. A slightly anachronistic act.

But I'm sure if Jim Davidson could manage to develop a funny, engaging and Politically Correct act he would have done so. He's just not been able to manage it.. and as a creative performer that will frustrate him.

Remember that what we find amusing or not is just social fashion. In 200 years time they might rave about him and wonder why we didn't stick his statue on a plinth in Trafalgar Square.

I'd still like to know what a 'Bell-end' is (apart from an end to a bell)

Re: Jim Davidson

Duh!!

A bell-end is the end of a Vango tent where you put your stuff. The opposite end to the zip.

Also colloquial slang for a gentleman's knob.

Why thank you Mr RalfS - it makes so much sense now!!!

Although personally I think a knob's useful - whereas he isn't
