Cool Thunder & lightning

I love thunder and lightning, always have, especially at night when you can see the proper forks of lightning in the sky.

I have some great videos from the last few weeks

So, do you like to watch thunder storms or are you a big baby wimp who hides under the covers?

Office Chair.

Generally I don't notice them. However a couple of months back I decided to get my DSLR pointing out the rear window, told the missus it was for the storm. Anyway by the time I got the whole thing assembled (actually I never did assemble it) the storm had passed.

Still, I realised my twice used tripod was only fit for the bin.

The train :(

My bedroom faces the wrong way, so I don't really get a good view of them but as long as I am not trying to get to sleep, I do like watching them.

We were on a rooftop last summer and watched a good one from up there

If it arrives in the night, I treat it as a minor irritation. I'll sometimes wake up, but just cannot be bothered to get up, but just try to go back to sleep. The best lightning I have seen is usually in the open sea.

I always wonder what the neighbours may think if I venture outside with my camera at night......

What is exciting is if there is a lightning strike close by. The stench of Ozone is really something - the nearest I've seen is when I was driving on the M11 and there was a strike in the field next to the motorway

Yes! The triple-atomed isotope of oxygen! It is distinctive, almost a very 'fresh' smell.

Closest I came and I didn't see the strike, was walking to the train station and it was right overhead. That evening I came back to find he ADSL router was dead.

One of my photography goals is to catch lightning on camera

Here's how you do it Eddie, next time there is a storm go outside with your metal camera, shelter under a tree or next to a street light and wait.

I would put a small wager that you'll get what you want, if not more.
